Lord forgive me, I can’t feel one bit of empathy for the Chinese.

It’s not like I hate Asians. I have a couple Filipino friends. I’m a regular at our local Indian restaurant and am friendly with the owner and staff. I have a great admiration for Japan and always regret how such cultured people could have gone so wrong in World War II and the years preceding.

But there’s something that repels me about China as it exists today. And I think it boils down to the notion that the Chinese have a different concept of truth than we do.

It seems that the Chinese will always say what they think the listener wants to hear, regardless of the underlying facts. This makes any business dealing with them risky in the extreme.

As for China’s penchant for breaking any and every trade agreement, I can only ask: Does this reflect the corrupt nature of communism, or does the rot go deeper, into the underlying culture.

These are questions I ask myself a lot. I don’t pretend to have any answers. I only know that aside from persecuted Chinese Christians, I find it hard to muster any sympathy for that teeming and benighted nation.

I don’t know a damned thing about it.
