The virus, which has infected 66,492 people in China...
...
There are 1.382 billion people in China who are not infected.
Of course, not so long ago, most circulation currency was made of silver, which has natural germ-killing properties that have been understood for centuries.
Im glad you did post it!
If anyone watches how dirty cash is, they would never handle it these days. Old people in China use cash for everything, and they are also the majority of the sick people over there.
Yes, agree.
There’s an excellent meme, that a few have posted on CV threads, that explains that attitude, perfectly.
If I come across it, I’ll post it, here.
Very fitting :)
[[Cash is a well known disease vector.]]
Or, it’s a well known immunity booster
Actually pretty long ago. And we went away from it for a reason: coins suck. Heavy, inconvenient to sort, can’t be folded. Paper won for a reason. And now paper is losing to ecash for a reason. We had some pretty solid epidemics during the coin era, so the germ killing properties weren’t that helpful. Of course back then we didn’t have germ, anti-microbial soaps and all kinds of other useful stuff.
Please do tell us, what reason is China now disinfecting their bank notes for.
...
We know it’s because of the virus, but does the article mention specifically why?
Is it an abundance of caution?
Is a brief touch of currency with virus on it just as infectious as close and prolonged contact with an infected person?
Not getting sick is better than getting over it. Especially with highly malleable things like colds and flus. Catching this year’s ain’t gonna help you next.
Out of date. Most Chinese transactions are contactless and cashless. There are debit cards and credit cards.
And online payment platforms. Chinese payment today is digital.
This is all overblown.
At least coins had an intrinsic value, paper money is only worth what it says if people have confidence in the government, and e-cash is even worse, a series of electronic numbers on the internet, utterly intangable and even more vulnerable to manipulation and control by governments and bankers.
that’s not what i meant- growing up, kids that are exposed to germs develop strong immune systems compared to kids that grow up in mostly sterile conditions- those kids get everything that comes along when they go out into the real world- because they have no immunity against certain things-
[[Is a brief touch of currency with virus on it just as infectious as close and prolonged contact with an infected person?]]
Yes- a person can very briefly touch an infected surface, then touch their face (people apparently touch their faces all day long without realizing it), and that is how it gets spread- viruses usually begin in the nose- (Zicam had a zinc product that was fantastic at halting colds in their tracks, but people began losing their sense of smell because of the zinc- so they discontinued the product)

Many places us kiosks now, which is a germ spreader too-
There are 1.382 billion people in China who are not infected
You certainly arent with the program, are you? After five months thats an infection rate of .00005%.
No they didn’t. Nothing we’ve ever used as money had an intrinsic value. That’s the point of money. When you’re trading things of intrinsic value that’s called barter. I give you chickens you can eat (intrinsic value) in exchange for a horse to transport myself (intrinsic value). The point of money is to get AWAY from things of intrinsic value, because they tend to be awkward to move around, and also get consumed. Once you eat that chicken you no longer have chicken to trade. Also there’s the whole interest problem, what if nobody who has horses for sale wants any chickens, make my life harder. But when I sell chickens for CASH I now go buy a horse for CASH.
ALL money, throughout history has value because OTHER PEOPLE value it. Nobody gives a damn the government. The question is “if I take this money to a place of commerce will people give me stuff in exchange.” Government, no government, doesn’t matter. PEOPLE give money value. And no money ever has, or ever will, have intrinsic value. Because then it something you buy and sell, not something you use to buy and sell.
With that infection rate, why all of the draconian steps to halt the spread of COVD-2019? Can someone explain?
Actually that’s one of the oldest and silliest myths in the world. Everybody loves it, but it’s bunk. The “build immunity” thing requires you to GET the thing, and your body builds anti-bodies. That’s the base science. And remember, most symptoms are actually caused by your immune system. Fever, runny nose, all that is just your body fighting it out.
You have obviously never spent much time in China.
Young people use WeChat Wallet and cards. The elderly do not have smart phones (usually), and stick with their cash.
You cant get a taxi in China without WeChat.
Soon to be much lower.
