Yes and no. Japan will ALWAYS put their people first (for example, don’t try having a legal or criminal dispute there if you’re not Japanese, it’s hopeless). We could learn from them...but still, there were probably options, such as offloading them to islands (Japanese or otherwise).

I fully understand that the Japanese had their own citizens protection as the highest priority (just as the US would), but a civilized nation has an obligation to help give the best basic healthcare to even foreigners under their jurisdiction. In my opinion, Japan failed that obligation here in this case.
