If anything, the Russians probably hoped Trump would win, so they wouldn’t have a homosexual advocate, but instead a man who saw them as a potential anti-Isis ally, and someone not determined to go to war with them. But like all rational people, outside the United States especially, they judged that Hillary would probably win. The last thing they wanted to do was enrage her and have eight years of hell for supporting Trump during the campaign. So Russia pretty much stayed completely out of it and hoped for the best.
