Its a scene thats all too familiar to San Francisco drivers and pedestrians alike. A car is parked on the side of the curb with one of its windows smashed out, fragments of glass pooled in the passenger seat and shattered to bits on the pavement below.

Or if I caught an individual destroying my property in order to steal my belongings I could whip the holy tar out of them so they would be less likely to commit a crime in the future.
You’re too kind. I’d be more inclined to ventilate their skull with a .45 round.
I don’t go to places where that happens.
Pedestrians are not terribly concerned about car break ins. Not that they are in favor, but it is not the top issue.
Isn’t this what car insurance is for?
I foresee SF passing a city ordinance that requires car owners that park on the street to leave their cars unlocked. No broken glass, the city doesnt have to reimburse anyone. Problem solved.
Nah, Knee cap ‘em and let them spread the gospel.
If you catch one in the act, shove some broken glass in his mouth and make him swallow. A lot of broken glass, he’ll be less likely to repeat.
...you could get them the help they need to recover.
My language skills fail me... I just ain’t got the words.
Criminality now becomes a taxpayer funded activity.
We had a case in the lower Haight just like that.
A fellow was woken by his wife after hearing noises coming from his work truck. A vagrant ( read drug addict) had smashed the side window and was in the truck emptying it out into a stolen recycling bin. This was around 3AM. The husband gave chase and caught up to him. In frustration he threw a hammer at the bum hitting him in the elbow.
The bum went to the hospital and was treated for his elbow and cited for a misdemeanor : ie < $950 theft.
The husband was arrested and charged with ADW and attempted murder.
Lesson learned:
1. Criminals are a protected class. Do not touch them
2. DO NOT CALL THE POLICE.
3. DO NOT TALK TO THE POLICE.
4. Use silence if in a similar situation
