I remember when the ERA was a big deal in the 80's. The proponents swore up and down that it would absolutely positively unequivocally NOT mandate allowing men to share women's restroom or locker facilities. Trust the govt they tell us. They're only here to help, they tell us. They want to make us a more equal society, they tell us.

Why don't they just reintroduce the amendment and have all the states vote on it again? That would be constitutional and probably easy to pass now.

The House approved the resolution, 232-183, on Thursday, sending it to the Senate. ...where it will die.

Democrats themselves baked a deadline into the original ERA when they were sure it would be quickly adopted.

They don’t have the votes to pass it again and this is all pure kabuki theater. They know its going nowhere.

As long the GOP controls both the White House and the Senate.

A constitutional amendment cannot be unconstitutional. If they pass the ERA it becomes the constitution.

This push actually started when late Justice Scalia made a comment a decade ago that the Constitution itself does not bar gender discrimination. The feminists went nuts over that and renewed their efforts to pass this.
