The Chinese have changed the description of who is to be counted as infected. If a patient tests positive but is asymptomatic they will not be counted. The numbers just went down

14 k today vs 3k for the past week. Are the Chinese upcounting or downcounting cases? The increase is huge, but other items seem to indicate that they will be undercounting. Which is true?

Me too. I think there is evidence that it is much worse than China is telling us. But we don’t know anything concrete now.
The Chinese are now counting clinical cases, not lab confirmed. The 14k included cases where they have all the symptoms without lab work.
What this says is they’ve given up on doing the lab work to confirm cases.
I saw a post on here, something about a change in reporting to match other provinces. Either way, 14k cases we, mentally, didn’t have half a day ago.

I posted because there have been articles today about systematic undercounting, where likely cases, and even deaths were ignored.
Sure. The issue is whether we have a change in counting or a huge one day increase. Sharp changes make trend assessment difficult.
