A Chinese lawyer who had been documenting the coronavirus outbreak in the city of Wuhan has not been seen or heard from since last week, and friends and family say they fear he may have been forcibly quarantined by the Chinese government.
The lawyer, Chen Qiushi, 34, made a series of social media posts about the outbreak in Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus epidemic, starting on Jan. 25, several days after the city was locked down by the Chinese government to help stop the spread of the virus, which has killed over 1,000 people in China.
Calling himself a "citizen journalist," Chen posted videos and messages reporting hardships faced by Wuhan residents seeking medical help and supplies, as well as hospital overcrowding.
In one tweet last week, Chen said he had collected evidence that medical, first aid and funeral services in Wuhan have been "overloaded."
In his often emotional posts, Chen heavily criticized Chinese authorities, accusing them of inefficiency and restrictions on freedom of speech.
His last update came on Thursday. He has not been seen or heard from since, his friends and family say.

Wow.. A Chinese citizen just disappeared without a trace after criticizing the government? Who would have thunk it?
When I read the headline, I thought that the lawyer was critical was critical of the government missing in Wuhan. No such luck.
I saw his video.
He said at the start and end of his video that he wasn’t afraid of the Chinese government. (He was clearly terrified, but bravely posting anyway)
I’m for quarantines with serious infectious illnesses, but communications should still be allowed. Not right that the Chinese communists can throw someone in quarantine, because they don’t like what they are saying.

That’s how communist china does things. In the USA, it’s more subtle. They deplatform you, and they suppress your postings. You find that you can’t get a job. A newspapers posts your home address.

That would be my guess, too.
They aren’t all that great at stopping the virus, but they’re quite efficient at stopping news of the virus that they don’t want disseminated.
120 people out of 3,000 on a cruise ship have come down with it. That’s four percent.
Four percent of the population of the city of Wuhan alone is 560,000 people. It started there, is normally as crowded as a cruise ship day to day if not more so, and has reported less than 32,000 infected so far. (The whole province of Hubei, which includes Wuhan, has reported under 32,000 so far.)
He is like the Ezra Levant of China. Meanwhile the Canadian government and government run media in Canada have been trying to quarantine Levant’s Rebel Media by pretending they are a hate group.
