Four more people have tested positive for the coronavirus in the UK this morning, including two health care workers. The new cases take the total number of infections in England to eight.

It comes as the Telegraph has learned that a quarantined British patient threatening to abscond from coronavirus facilities has forced the Health Secretary to tighten quarantine rules.

In before the "It's less lethal than halitosis" crowd...
Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

I suspect “super spreaders” will turn out to be folks that don’t wash their hands after going to the bathroom and or love to let a cough rip in public without covering because ... well, they’re pigs

No the super spreaders are the people who are used to working despite having colds and the flu. Their tough, they don’t let anything stop them. Nevermind their whole department gets wiped out a week later.

One effect of this virus is that once it’s confirmed in an area, people are going to have to go get tested every time they are sick. They can’t assume it’s a cold or even the flu.

This morning in the coffee room at work I witnessed a former nurse, who came to work sick, sneeze into his hand, wipe it on his pants, and then use the Keurig machine without washing.

When I confronted him about coming to work sick and told him I had lifelong asthma (I have nearly died from it a few times) he told me “maybe you should wear a mask”.

I was and still am LIVID.

Can testing detect the virus before symptoms appear?

Testing can’t even defect the virus in people with symptoms all the time

CDC said that several have tested positive, then negative, then positive again

Shut down a whole GP clinic over a case of the sniffles? Why didn’t someone tell them it’s just the flu, bro /s

I’m not sure.
I would think testing can detect it once you are contagious even if asymptomatic.

The question is how long after being exposed do you become contagious?

If we knew the answer, that could shorten the quarantine periods.

I got tired of that kind of Mitt behavior 20 years ago.

From another source:

Professor Piot, who co-discovered ebola and the presence of Aids in Africa, warned that coronavirus is more dangerous than ebola.

“It’s a greater threat because of the mode of transmission. The potential for spread is much, much higher,” he told The Times.

“If the number of people who get infected is huge, then that will also kill a number of people.”

Just wait til police start shoving people into vans. If it gets as bad as China, plenty will not comply when forced to go to quarantine center, hospital, camp, or prison. Look at what happened on the cruise ship, look what’s happening with the healthcare workers in China.

Confinement = death.

Is this the CW 2 spark? I don’t see people as cooperative with government as during Spanish flu.

My mother died from a hospital-acquired infection. I was and still am LIVID. You need to complain to that nurse's supervisor!

Could burning 900 bodies over 10 days account for that?
50,000?

Scary that it shows up on Satellite.
