Republicans sense momentum after impeachment win BY JULIE GRACE BRUFKE - 02/08/20 05:08 PM EST 13,30
House Republicans believe they are gaining momentum after a terrible week for Democrats and a strong one for President Trump.
GOP lawmakers are becoming optimistic they have a chance to pick up seats or even win back the majority in November.
Taking back the House would require picking up at least 18 seats and would be a tough climb, but Republicans say the turmoil in the Democratic Party and a strong economy bolstering Trump give them reasons for optimism.
Spirits were running high during the House Republican Conference meeting Wednesday morning on the heels of Mondays disastrous Iowa Democratic caucuses and Tuesday nights State of the Union address and just ahead of Trumps impeachment acquittal in the Senate with some members saying they feel better positioned than they have in recent months.
A senior GOP aide who attended the meeting said Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas) told colleagues, Let's do what we've been doing, stay on message and we'll get the majority back.
Republicans felt even more rejuvenated following Trumps remarks at the White House on Thursday celebrating his acquittal, when he gave enthusiastic shoutouts to his congressional allies such as House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and vowed to help them win back the House.
I will say that you're going to be Speaker of the House because of this impeachment hoax. I really believe it, Trump said to McCarthy. And I'm going to work hard on it. I'm going to try and get out to those Trump areas that we won by a lot. And you know, in 18 we didnt win.
We are going to win a lot of seats, he added.
McCarthy later said that between the strength of the economy and impeachment polling poorly in battleground districts, he feels good about the GOPs odds for November.
Look at our favorability rating it's the best it's been since 2004, 2005. Look at the successes we've had. And then when you contrast that to the Democrats, what do they have? he said Thursday before taking a swipe at House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
You've got the freshman members in Trump districts very upset that Schiff and Pelosi put them in this place, he added.
Republicans are also looking to capitalize on Pelosis tearing up of Trumps speech after his third State of the Union address on Tuesday, something they hope to hammer home with swing voters.
There could be no sharper contrast between the president's State of the Union, talking about the great comeback of America because of the things that he's done to get our economy back on track and rebuild our military, contrasted to the complete and utter incompetence upon Democrats to be able to conduct a caucus in Iowa or to conduct themselves with basic decorum on the House floor during the State of the Union, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) told The Hill.
I think it's a sharp contrast, and America is watching. And they realize these are not the people that can be trusted with the reins of government when you've got a president who's been delivering for families and has real results that benefit hardworking Americans, Scalise added.
And while the election is still about nine months away, GOP lawmakers said they expect campaigns and outside groups will highlight Pelosis actions and the fumbles in Iowa between now and then.
Why does Canada have the G7s lowest overall tax rate on new business investment? SPONSORED CONTENT Why does Canada have the G7s lowest overall tax rate on new business investment?
BY INVEST IN CANADA I'm sure there are going to be some campaigns and organizations that probably put enough money behind an ad making sure it doesn't get out of the attention of the voter because it was so different than what we ever expected in the past, Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) told The Hill.
The GOPs wins this week may have provided a confidence boost, but Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.), who served as chairman of the House Republicans campaign arm during the 113th and 114th Congresses, said its still too early to tell what issues will resonate with voters in the fall.
I used to tell people when I ran the [campaign arm], I can tell you in August or September what the issues in the election will be, not in February. But I would much rather be in this situation in February than something worse, Walden told The Hill on Wednesday.
The GOP still faces a number of obstacles in its effort to regain the majority in the House, including unfavorable redistricting in North Carolina, a high number of retirements and Democrats holding a significant fundraising advantage after bringing in $40 million more than Republicans last year.
But despite House Democrats cash advantage, Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), who now holds Waldens previous post, said he thinks the party will flip back seats regardless of the fundraising gap.
We don't need to be equal on money. We need to be competitive. I think it's going to be extremely competitive, he told The Hill in an interview.
And these guys, again, they haven't accomplished anything they came here to do all they have been obsessed with is trying to undo the 2016 election. And the only way they can beat Donald Trump at the ballot box is by not having him on the ballot, he added.
Emmer argued Republicans have other factors that will work in their favor. He said progressives launching primary challenges against Democratic incumbents will be a money suck for lawmakers on the other side of the aisle and help level the playing field for Republicans in terms of campaign spending.
They're going to have more money, but they're going to burn a lot of this money across the country on these left-wing primaries, he said
What the republicans need is a conservative version of Michael bloomberg, willing to spend gazillions of dollars on political ads against the dems.
Start with Nancy Pelosi as the subject. It’s not just ripping up the speech at the end, it’s the hour and fifteen minutes of her acting like an out of control drug addict while on camera.
America is lucky that all she did was rip some paper, instead of pooping on the desk or pulling out a gun and opening fire. Her behavior is totally out of control. I don’t know if it’s just old age, or old age combined with alcoholism, or old age, alcoholism, and drug addiction. But she is just Not Right and should not be in a position of responsibility and authority. Politics aside, America deserves better.
Gazillions are not required.
Trump will have around 1-billion dollar (plus) by mid-summer, and probably going to 1.5-billion by November...most all coming from regular Americans, and NOT lobby groups.
In roughly twenty states, I don’t think Trump needs to buy air-time or newspaper space....just run regular Twitter chat, and internet-only advertisements.
For the rest, I’d aim them at district-by-district battles, and pair up individual advertisements with the House candidate running for the GOP....talking about the lack of Democratic accomplishments. In the case of California...I’d go talk about homelessness and point at the zero accomplishments. I’d go to Nancy’s own district, and make her actually speak to the public and explain what the master plan is.
I’d also ensure the GOP message goes firmly out for Black and Latino voters.
I believe there are two things which must be done: 1) full investigation of both Republicans and Democrats in Biden -like corruption in Ukraine and everywhere else;
2) getting in front of coronavirus in anticipation of a potential Wall Street crash and recession not to mention widespread illness and death-I acknowledge at this point that this is an improbable eventuality but the downside is so grave because the political risk is as lethal as it is unnecessary to bear.
The Republican Party simply must develop a plan to address electoral fraud or they will lose many otherwise winnable seats in November. Unfortunately, I don’t expect this to happen with Ronna Romney as the Direcor of the Republican Party.
It’s nine months till the election and anything can happen. Now is the time to double down and keep your eye on the prize and not become complacent.
I might agree to your two items...to some degree.
On resolving Biden...he’s been careful to never enrich himself, it’s always family members. I think Hunter (the son) will end up in some court, and some money-laundering business will bring him down (maybe five to eight years in prison). The rest of the family might be untouchable.
But there’s chatter today that Trump is talking of massive cuts on foreign aid. Into the billions. If he carried out that threat, all of these ‘cash-cows’ would be dead for Biden-like characters to bleed money off of. I think this is a better step forward.
On this Coronavirus chatter. If China doesn’t go back to full-scale industry production by mid-March, you will see a massive drop in products in stores (not just the US, but Asia, Africa, and Europe).
Even on the medical supply list....you could be talking about massive shortages of critical drugs by early summer. Maybe India could pick up some of the production, but at some point....Coronavirus will arrive in India and gut them at the same rate.
So you can predict....freighter traffic will show drastically, and stock markets drops of 1,000 to 2,000 points on the DOW will likely happen by late summer if general production in China doesn’t return to normal levels. People ought to be asking their pharmacy about the drugs they use, and where they are produced. If in China, you need to get a prescription early on, and stock-pile several months of the stuff.
I grudgingly admit the Dims had a good slogan in 2012, which was simple and resonated: “GM is alive and Bin Laden is dead”. (Sure, they robbed shareholders blind to “save” GM, but low-information voters don’t care.) The simplest of slogans can really be effective. Team Trump floated a good one a few weeks back when “Creating jobs and killing terrorists” began spreading. It’s not the most eloquent, but it succinctly states the message. If Trump stays focused on the booming economy and our position of power in the world, we’ll do great in November.
Bloomberg is foolishly flushing his millions down a rathole.
At the end of the day the largely socialist Democrat voter base is NOT going to line-up behind an ex-Republican Wall Street multimillionaire.
It’s NOT....GONNA....HAPPEN!
You pick up 18 seats, one at a time and the pubbies have already shown a very well organized plan, using young women, military vets, and in the politically correct way, "people of color", sometimes a tri-fecta.
I think the number of seats the pubbies pick up will be closer to 40 than 20, but a lot can change between now and November.
My congress critter is Guy Reschenthaler, a vet and an incumbent in the newly gerrymandered 14 District {the dirty PA court, changed the 18th to give it to the demonRATs} and Guy is a lock to win.
The 18th is now very tough since they put a load of demonRATs into this district. SAD!
I'm just glad that the low life POS senator pat toomey isn't running so I don't have to make a choice between him and a demonRAT.

Here in Congressional District 48 which in my lifetime has been a couple of different numbered district it had never been represented by a Democrat until 2018 when Dan Rohrbacher got booted by the strong hold Liberals here in Hollywood and around the nation led by non other than Mike Bloomberg to the tune of 4 MILLION $. Bloomberg helped the DNC win this seat and now we have a great chance to take it back with Michelle Steele.... https://www.michellesteelca.com
Recent polling actually has Steele UP!
