The Era of Limbaugh
WFB ^ | 7 Feb 2020 | Matthew Continetti

Florida governor Ron DeSantis spoke to Rush Limbaugh last fall at a gala dinner for the National Review Institute. The radio host was there to receive the William F. Buckley Jr. award. "He actually gave me one of the greatest compliments I've ever had," Limbaugh told his audience the next day. "He listed five great conservatives and put me in the list." DeSantis's pantheon: William F. Buckley Jr., Ronald Reagan, Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, and Limbaugh

Good list. No media figure since Buckley has had a more lasting influence on American conservatism than Limbaugh, whose cumulative weekly audience is more than 20 million people. Since national syndication in 1988, Limbaugh has been the voice of conservatism, his three-hour program blending news, politics, and entertainment in a powerful and polarizing cocktail. His shocking announcement this week that he has advanced lung cancer, and his appearance at the State of the Union, where President Trump awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, are occasions to reflect on his impact

“It’s one thing to excel in your field. It’s another to create the field in which you excel.”

That sums up Rysh’s influence very well

Probably one of the funniest Shanklin songs played by Limbaugh.

Rush is without question as powerful as Reagan or Trump could possibly be since he educated millions and changed elections. Congress and president can erase what Reagan or Trump could ever do, but educating millions can never be erased.

Nice article. I was questioning Rush’s saying on Friday that he always backed Trump;I knew He was a Cruz guy in the beginning. He wasn’t as anti Trump as Beck or Levin, but he definitely had another preference. What I find wonderful is that President Trump has turned around all three of these, Beck and Levin are definitely fans now. To listen to them now. You would have thought they were on his side the whole time. That’s the mark of a great politician.

One of my favorite Rush moments, Rush at CPAC 2009. All in black and crushing it.

I just found a poster calendar from 1994 with Rush and a every month has a lib on it...Both Clinton’s, Gore, Teddy, to name a few. Some of them I cannot remember their names. It’s a keeper to pass on.

Rush single handily kept AM radio alive. And saved the country from eventual ruin by the fake media.

Get well Rush we need you now more than ever.

One of the best contributions Rush made to conservatism is to laugh at liberals.

Rush changed the course of human history. I'd argue more deeply than the other four on the list.

You are exactly correct!!! BRAVO!

I used to be a Yuge Rush fan. Been on the show twice, went to a Rush to excellence tour event. I bought and read all his books (not the kids books) bought and watched his videos. I watched every episode of his TV show.

The first time I tuned in/discovered Rush, “Kiki de la Garza” (Margaret Hooper) was his producer and “Spatula City” was a sponsor.

That day after playing his Environmental Update, “Tiptoe Through The Tulips” by Tiny Tim, he had Kiki call Tiny Tim and actually got him on the phone. Tiny Tim was thrilled that Rush was using his song.

Whatever date that was, that’s how long since I started listening to Rush every day.

I remember when it became apparent that Trump was running, Rush was beside himself. He was giddy that Trump was running. And then he got THE phone call. I don’t know from whom, but the next day Rush was a Trump “but” boy. Trump’s good “BUT”, how about that Cruz guy?

All of a sudden Rush started tamping down any enthusiasm for Trump. Not “anti-Trump”, but certainly NOT “pro-Trump”. This continued until Trump secured the nomination. Then I guess he got another phone call to tell him it was okay now to support Trump.

Rush is not someone you would want to share a foxhole with. Just ask any of his FOUR wives.

I’m sorry about his cancer, I’m glad Trump awarded him the medal. A “hero” he is not.
