Maybe each county in the U.S. could be declared an independent entity, and then they could combine with other, contiguous, counties, in every direction, until a bloc reaches 1% of the total, resulting in 100 Senators, each representing 1% of U.S. counties.

They don’t frame it as “Would gerrymandering provide more accurate representation for people in areas that probably favor us?” (If it favored conservatives, the media wouldn’t even start the discussion about gerrymandering except to call it an abuse)
Instead, they frame it as “Would gerrymandering in an area be done to increase our political power by swinging senate seats eventually turning the Senate to Democrat control?”
