If I want to drive from Chandler, Arizona to Port Townsend, Washington,

And how often do you make that run?

“The people down South are screwed-They can’t make enough hay due to dry conditions.”

That’s not climate change/global warming, it’s just weather.

Climate change calls for a “warmer wetter world”.

Huh?

The 993 (air-cooled) was replaced by the 996 (water-cooled) for the 1998 model year.

(And, of course it had anti-lock brakes, just like all Porsches long before that. What do you hate about ABS?)

That was an example. I drive to Southern California quite often and don't need to add two hours each way. Six hours is an easy drive. Eight hours starts to become a chore.

My last 3 cars have been Buicks. Very satisfied with them, but a lot less satisfied with what I see carrying the nameplate now, & then if they go all electric......well, I just hope I’m not around to see that. They have a long way to go before that becomes practical & I’m not so sure I do.

I was discussing Tesla’s viability. They charge $60,000.

>> The infrastructure for all-electric vehicles is — at this time — minimal. <<

Yeah, but I’m talking about in the near future. Presuming you’re taking interstates, there’ll be plenty of chargers for you as it stands. By the time GM is producing so many electric cars, there’ll be tens of thousands of them.

Sorry, but your wording was vague.

this will be forced on us......I don't trust our govt at all and the thought of not being able to drive away ON MY OWN without some computer dictating my route and my speed frightens the hell out of me.....

do you all realize what a little cage they're making for us?....they hear everything, they see everything, they know every dollar you make and spend, and now they want to control where you go by controlling all the vehicles....

"Rush wrote a song about that.
Rush - Red Barchetta"

Holy cow...that nailed it exactly. That was the storyline put to tune.

“Yeah, she was driving slooooow...........................”

Was her left turn signal on...forever? That’ll kill the battery even faster.

;~)

They was it...you found the actual story! Road & Track (hah, not Playboy) in 1973. I must’ve read it while I was in the Navy. And CtBigPat clued me into the Rush song “Red Barchetta”. Good memories from long ago...thanks for filing in the “back story”.
