A trio of swing-state senators got a lot of love from their fellow Democrats after voting guilty on two articles of impeachment against President Trump Wednesday, as their colleagues hailed them for political courage.
Immediately after their historic votes, Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va.; Doug Jones, D-Ala., and Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., were rushed by fellow Democrat lawmakers who gave them hugs, pats on the back and handshakes.
As the three undecided Democrats before Wednesdays vote, and under tremendous pressure from all sides, their decision to stick with their party led to an outpouring of support.

Given that Morrisey broke the Dem lock on the AG office, which hadn’t elected a Republican last since 1928, and was the only Republican to win statewide that year, he seemed the best shot to take on Manchin (at a time when Manchin was faring poorly in the polls and seemed to just be utterly disinterested in whether he wanted to stay Senator or come back and run for Governor again).
The native son thing never struck me as particularly important, given that they elected the carpetbagger Rockefeller and North Carolina White trash Cornelius Calvin Sale, Jr., to the Senate.
I wasn’t living here when the campaign started. Moved back September of 2018. I am repeating what GOP locals here have told me & what I saw of Morrissey’s campaign & Manchin’s commercials. Everyone I talked to about Morrissey either started the conversation or ended it with “Y’know he’s out-of-state!”. Manchin’s campaign ads hit that hard, emphasized Manchin’s native son status, played football at WVU (Set the bench but was on the team!). If Morrissey wasn’t vulnerable there they wouldn’t have cut the commercials. Again everyone I talked to brought up Morrissey’s & wife’s lobbyist background and not positively. His law suits against drug companies, yes he won but somehow it got out that he let them off easy. Everyone mentioned that and it was with a ‘you know he & wife are pharmaceutical lobbyists’! He had or at least I heard no counter explanation. If he had one it was poorly communicated. Yes “native son” matters or Manchin wouldn’t have emphasized it if it were not so. Are you a WV’ian if so I surprised you don’t know that!
Now regarding Rockefeller its $$$$$$$$$$$$$ & that’s it. People here are unduly impressed by it. Look at the current governor! I remember people convincing themselves & trying to convince me that somehow Rockefeller money would be used in the state if he became governor. Regarding your other example that’s so long ago it might as well have been a different world. Effectively it was!
Old political family.
You see that coming also, eh?
A brokered convention would give him that opening imo
Yes it would and he might exploit the opportunity but I think he’s angling for 2024.
I think he’s a little old to be looking at ‘24....he’d be 77 then.
With all the wackos the RATS have leading the pack, I think he’ll look VERY electable to them.
Better alternative then allowing Hellary to bludgeon her way in!
So maybe !
Of course my question is ‘what is he going to say to the coal miners who make up a huge party of his constituency when starts having to sound like Greta Thunburg?’
And be an enthusiastic proponent of gun confiscation!
I think her health will make her a non-factor.
Milwaukee could be quite interesting this summer.
Hell, it worked before...lol
Morrisey should’ve addressed the “out of state” issue early on and put it away. That was a non-reason. He needed to point out that Manchin went native in D.C. and was as slick and about as left-wing as the California Communists that hate our President.
No, I’m not a WV native. I’m in Tennessee.
But he didn’t !
He ran a poor campaign against Manchin.
Doug Jones is most definitely TOAST. Not sure about Sinema and that stupid POS Manchin.
But she will still try!
Cause she was robbed!
You just described Bill Clinton in '92
Our guys don’t know how to go nuclear. They need to fight like Trump does.
This issue alone for Morrisey should've won him a landslide.
Here’s an argument for 2024.
Usually its two terms on party then the public us tired wants novelty & you get the opposition party.
If its Pence & it likely will be, he’s a professional politician. It will very hard for him to play the outsider shake-me up card like Trump. He will be vulnerable, as will any GOP’’er because of the way the cycle goes.
That’s the time for Manchin to strike!
