If you had to design a candidate that was destined to lose Manchin, you couldn't have done better then Morrissey.
Boring speaker, department store mannequin personality (and still won two state-wide elections somehow!), not a native WV’ian who still kept a house in NoVa (reason was elderly parent- never mind the reason it made bad optics!), ex-pharmaceutical lobbyist (wife still is!), way way too easy to paint as a carpet-bagger! Which Manchin did! Like in most of Appalachia if you're not native it take a long apprenticeship to join the club. Manchin just campaigned with the theme “ I'm a native son & your not!”. It still works here. (Unless you're rich like Rockefeller - oodles of money beats native son prejudice!)
