A few years back a friend and I were catching up, talking about everything from old times to politics. At one point we got to talking about talk radio, how it shaped our thinking, and how our respective jobs now make it difficult to tune in like we used to. And then my buddy said something I thought perfectly captured what Rush Limbaugh means to tens of millions of us.
I dont get to listen to Rush as much as Id like, he said. But I sure feel better knowing hes out there.
My friend didnt say that as though he had given it a moments thought, or like he was saying something profound. It was just an offhand comment about the way he felt, but it immediately struck me as a nail hit on the head.
Since 1989, the unwritten rule in this house is that if you have the opportunity to listen to Rush Limbaugh, you listen to Rush Limbaugh; if youre in the car between noon and three, you listen to Rush Limbaugh. In fact, because we live in the sticks and often travel an hour or two from home, the presets on the car radio are there for only one purpose: to ensure that as soon as our local station goes to static, and regardless of which direction were headed, with the touch of a button we dont miss a word.
Unfortunately, we dont get to listen to Rush as much as we used to, as much as wed like, but we sure feel better knowing hes out there.

In September I had to leave during a workday to get fingerprinted for clearance at a VA facility. I was dreading having to go.
I got in the car, looked at my clock, and realized, “It’s 10, I can listen to Rush!”
It transformed the trip from a nuisance to a privilege.
He’s our brains, guts, and hearts. I wouldn’t be a conservative today without him. He’s one of those teachers who changed my life.
That’s what I’ve been telling my family, that Rush is the Irreplaceable Man.
This is why we need to hope and pray for him. He is talent on loan from God. May God leave him here with us until he has lived a good, long life.
Rush is irreplaceable. There is no one like him in America.
Matt Drudge is also a catastrophic loss.
Drudge was never a Conservative, but he was the greatest headline writer of his generation.
He forced the Democrats to play defense on a multitude of political issues for more than 15 years.
Whether you are in a Hospital bed, jail cell, or bed ridden at home, Rush is a beacon drawing you in. God Bless him.
I agree. No one matches Limbaugh for easily digestible analysis.
Come on Rush..stick around for at least 5 more year.
There really is no one who comes close. The combo of commentary, wit and analysis is unique. Rush has an entertainment quality all of the others lack. I have been listening for 28 years. I was saddened when l saw him last night he looked like a man who has stage 4 cancer. I pray he recovers but it doesn’t look good. I have always dreaded the idea that something may happen to Rush. it really is in many ways like losing a dear friend.
Mostly true.
There are always substitutes.
Rush Limbaugh’s anti Tariff ignorance over 30 years with Walter Williams was utterly disgusting.
Rush is loved.
But Rush is economically illiterate.
I thought Rush looked much more ill, as though he’s already started chemo (I saw it in my wife two years ago). He seemed frail.
The fact that we now have lots of conservatives, and yes, some not as conservative, voices out over the airwaves is due to Rush Limbaugh and his fight against liberalism. Keep on fighting, Rush, for we are on our knees begging God to give you healing!
Mark Steyn does a very credible job as a guest host and would be my choice for Rush’s replacement if needed. I pray Rush will beat this cancer as we need him badly to help fight left wing censorship and educate the younger generation.
Ditto!!
The fact that the MOF presentation was obviously put together on the fly does not bode well, IMO.
Rush is as irreplaceable as Paul Harvey.
There will not be another like him. Instead there will only be somebody else.
Like Billy Graham, Paul Harvey, Bob Hope, Charlton Heston...
