Teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg has been nominated for the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize by two Swedish lawmakers, a report said on Monday.
Jens Holm and Hakan Svenneling, members of Sweden’s Left Party, said the 17-year-old Thunberg “has worked hard to make politicians open their eyes to the climate crisis.”
Her work toward “reducing our emissions and complying with the Paris Agreement is therefore also an act of making peace,” they said.
The Paris accord, from which President Trump withdrew in June 2017, seeks to combat the rise in global temperatures by reducing emissions.
Thunberg, who has encouraged students to skip school to attend rallies for the environment, has spoken out on the world stage about climate change — including at the United Nations General Assembly last September, at the UN’s annual COP25 climate meeting in Madrid in December and most recently at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
“I wonder, what will you tell your children was the reason to fail and leave them facing the climate chaos you knowingly brought upon them?” she mused to the gathering of world business and political leaders in Switzerland last month.

Yep. I stopped respecting the Nobel Awards when they gave the Peace Prize to Jimmy Carter for brokering the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty with the Norks. Two weeks later the Norks announced that they had gone Nuclear. I’m shouting ‘give the Peace Prize AND the MONEY back!’. No one paid attention.
I think its perfect that she is nominated. Its a BS award so the more BS nominations that get made to cheapen it further, the better.
Seems to me that I predicted that. The old Swedes gave the prize to bammy but refused to give it to the one who deserved it, Trump.
Of course she’s been nominated. The reward became a pointless political tool ever since Obama was given the award for being half black. :)
Just an aside, we were watching the BAFTAs last night. The Emcee made a reference to the Jo Jo Rabbit boy with a monster lurking behind him and then he said ‘much like Greta Thunberg’. No clapping so maybe many didn’t get the reference. Fed up with Trump bashing, especially from those who don’t even live here.
The Nobel Peace Prize should be renamed to “The Nobel Whacko Left Prize”.
Well if Obama got one for doing nothing why not hand one out to an emotionally disturbed child?
I guess it’s too much to ask that people actually ACCOMPLISH something before they are given that (ahem!) prize. We learned how much that mattered in 2009....
Facts matter not - it’s the EFFORT that’s important. Now we know why her parents pushed her into her activism.
And she joins other Nobel Peace Prize giants: Yasser Arafat, Barack Obama, the European Union (yes, it actually was given the prize in 2012), Jimmy Carter, Mikhail Gorbachev (but nothing Ronald Reagan), etc. Oh, and guess who was nominated? Adolph Hitler and Joseph Stalin. For real.
So lil leftist brat child throws a hissy fit and gets a Nobel Cracker Jack peace prize. What an absolute joke. Shouldn’t Swedes be worried about radical muzzies destroying their nation vs faux climate change?
That was my thought back in 2004 when the Dems at their convention had a child lecturing us. She shouted ‘SHAME ON YOU, George W Bush’ several times. All I thought was ‘how embarrasing’. I don’t even remember seeing Bammy give his ‘Presidential’ speech, but apparently that Convention was the reason we were forced to endure 8 years of him trying to completely destroy out beloved nation.
