There was a Chinese guy that apologized for that - “That is the custom in China.”

I thought - they are screwed with this virus thing if they can’t even figure out to hold their cameras the proper way! (Disclaimer - it may have to do with the format of the “wechat” app that they use??)

I guess you’d do what the Chinese are doing - call in your symptoms, wait for a transport hazmat vehicle which will take you for testing (or will bring a test to you). Then you get to stay ‘isolated’ at home until a bed is found and off you go, just like in the movies. Hospitals will become no-go zones to protect the other sick and the maternity wards.

I put up a video a few days ago that cameo’d Loma Linda U Hospital; they’ve already got their isolation tent set up outside. Once Riverside Co has it’s first case, folks will be checked before the ER door and directed to the tent. A no-visiting policy for the main hospital may go in effect. Here, we can turn warehouses, schools, strip malls, office buildings, etc. into isolation units. No need to build a ‘hospital’ in 7 days. And no need for people to wait 8-10 days for a bed and treatment while they try to self-treat with vitamins and Chinese herbs like is happening in Hubai.

Our advantage is we have a slight head start over China who waited until Jan 9 or so to sequence the virus, Jan 23 to begin a quarantine and are still relying on the world to provide a vaccine. Meanwhile our vax research folks were forming teams, burning the midnight oil and sharing brainpower. And, we have live patients to work with now. We have no known cases of Corona prior to Jan. We’re only seeing recent cases, all, I believe from Wuhan, and all of which are said to have self-quarantined once they got here and were officially quarantined immediately upon symptoms. Unlike China whose folks wandered about while waiting on test results. (Personally, I’d be for a mandatory quarantine of anyone who flew in from Wuhan in the past month instead of relying on them trickling in)

You’re pushing the envelope though. I’m a VA patient and wouldn’t bother them unless a cold won’t go away.

Heck, I don't even go in for that. Well, now I may. I'm not quite the vibrant cockerel I once was. (Roll eyes.) And this virus may not leave a whole lot of room for error for older guys.

I expect in the US patients won’t crowd the ER until things were very bad indeed.

However, to your point, we are outnumbered. My observation out in the "wider" health care setting is that especially in flu season, the waiting rooms (ER's, clinics, urgent care facilities are ALREADY full of coughing, sneezing, sniffling, etc. people waiting to be seen. Most are women and kids, a few are men, and a few are men apparently there with their woman or kids and not sick (at least not yet!) Women are just flat out more likely to "go to the doctor" for a seemingly moderate illness. (Ladies, that's NOT a crack at women - maybe you are just smarter about this!)

In a panic situation (might well happen even if not really justified by the on-the-ground-situation, due to media hype), this will intensify. (FReeper ladies, if the shoe doesn't fit, PLEASE don't wear it(!!), but there IS a good slice of the female population, and some men, who will panic early. Fear and induced fear is a major factor in Dem voting demographics.)

What kind of numbers are we talking about? Hard to say. But, if just 5% of the US population, over and above the flu sufferers and other non-coronavirus patients, hit the ER's and walk in care facilities in March, that's 16.5 million patients in one month, added to the existing burden. I would expect at least some serious regional "overloads" of the health care system, but, maybe I am too pessimistic. That's probably a better question, again, for one of our pros.

Three People In NYC Undergoing Testing For Coronavirus

February 3, 2020 at 4:46 am

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Health officials in New York say three patients met the criteria to be tested for coronavirus. They had recently been to China and showed symptoms: a fever, cough, shortness of breath.
-snip-

Officials tried assuaging the public on Sunday, saying there is absolutely no reason to be fearful. Of the 14 suspected New York cases of coronavirus sent to the Centers for Disease Control for testing, 11 have come back negative.

The 12th, 13th and 14th are all pending. Health officials said results should be known for all three within 36-48 hours. The patient in the initial case has been reported in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital . In the second case, which was announced earlier Sunday night, officials said the patient is a 60-year-old man who is in stable condition at Flushing Hospital Medical Center.

Mayor Bill de Blasio later confirmed the third case. CBS2 has learned that patient is at New York-Presbyterian Queens.

I may be out in left field, way out, won’t be the first time, but I’m going there anyway.
First -admitted- case of CV Dec, 2019.
First death from vaping cartridges Aug 23, 2019. Cases to date: 2,711. Deaths to date 60. New cases as of Jan 21, 2020 is 43. No new deaths since last report. Sudden onset acute lung illness resulting in permanent damage and/or death. Blamed on herbicide, hygiene, vit e, and unknown. Alleged seller of cartridges busted months ago.
Has anyone poked their noses into blood scans of the deceased, like maybe for a cv or two? I said I’d be coming from left field so maybe it’s crazytalk? But there has to be some reason I stumbled onto the article....

I’m not sure about that.

But those might make excellent distribution sources for a bioweapon. Dunno enough about them.

BTW, most of our vaccines and/or ingredients for vaccines come from China or India.

Even our military vaccines.

(happy thoughts)

Shocker.

Exactly what at least 2 publications from several years ago said...

I want to know paper or cardboard. If anyone has any publications that discuss that please post them.

remind me again whose brilliant idea it was to give a Mao-ist country control of all the lovely things that keep the free world alive?

Looks like the median age in Japan is 47yrs old.

So this isn’t just the old people getting this (albeit tiny sample number)

OOp, I wasn’t clear.

The median age of ALL Japanese in Japan is 47.

Looks like the median age of the infected is somewhat lower than that.

Sorry if I was unclear :)

Comment: A lot of medical personnel are getting sick, understandably. I’m trusting healthcare facilities will have the best PPE and procedures for medical personnel here in the states. My son does contract work in a hospital and he hasn’t heard anything yet.
