NBC Analysis: In Senate trial, Trump may have gained power but lost political case
NBC "News" ^ | January 31, 2020 | By Jonathan Allen (D)

President Donald Trump's Senate impeachment trial promises to leave him more powerful in Washington — and possibly more vulnerable to defeat on the campaign trail.

That's in part because a handful of pivotal Senate Republicans chose to condemn Trump's behavior in office while protecting him from both official sanction and the potential jeopardy of witnesses unraveling his impeachment defense under oath. As a result, Trump is on the verge of emerging from the trial with a tacit green light to defy Congress without fear of reprisal, and also safe in the knowledge that elected representatives will push only so far to find out whether he tells the truth to the public.

"It’s arguable that he’s the most politically powerful president in American history," presidential biographer Jon Meacham said on NBC News during a break in the trial Friday.

But that power, demonstrated with the Senate's 51-49 vote Friday against considering new evidence, combined with the mild rebukes from GOP senators to dilute the most compelling aspect of his political brand. It will be harder for Trump to cast himself as a victim of the system after allies in the Senate said he overstepped the bounds of his authority and then used their power to bail him out of trouble.

The more he looks like he's rigging the system, the less it looks rigged against him.

The desperation of the media and DumocRATS over Trumps impending acquittal is palatable. Three years of griping, whining and complaining are culminating next week with Trump’s exoneration and they have all been left looking like the fools they are.

Those who have followed every step and who’ve been led down the path of failure by these fools are rip roaring mad at them, and they in turn are grasping at straws to try and explain their failure to ‘get’ Trump.

Trump won, they lost... End of story.

At least they put the (D) after the name this time. All NBC writers should put a (D) after their name cause that’s what they are. Disinformation, dirty tricks and propaganda department of the Democratic Party.

Very telling about authors concerns:

Oh yes, a Democrat victory is assured now. Umm, isn’t Bernie leading in California right now?

Maybe the media partners should have taken care of that issue before the DNC pony show in the Senate was done. Oops.

The tally on the vote Wednesday will be a majority to vote guilty. Mark my words. That will be the time that the RINOs can come out and vote against Trump. It still won’t be a super majority but possibly 45 not guilty and 55 guilty. If you look at the impeachment vote with Clinton it was the other way around buy the same RINOs and in some cases literally the same RINOS like Collins and Shelby. This time you’ve got Romney who will take the place of jumping Jim Jeffords.

As always, projection.

Yeah, sure, the system isn’t rigged, it’s being rigged by Trump.

Never minding the entire Russian Collusion Hoax and the fact that this entire impeachment hoax have been pretty much an example of the rigged system the President has talked about.

1. The corruption of law enforcement for political gain. In fact, this has shown the naked attempt by the “democrats” to criminalize the opposition.

2. The absolute erosion of cherished rights and legal principles.

-Probable cause? Nah, it’s the seriousness of the charge.

-A search warrant? Coming right up!!! Someone get me Fusion GPS.

-Right to counsel? Nah, only after all the witnesses have testified.

-Speaking of witnesses, you can’t call any that might exonerate you. Don’t worry, later on it will be proclaimed that you lack any factual defense.

-Oh, and if any called against you do exonerate you, the prosecution will now fail to turn over that exculpatory evidence.

-While we are still on the topic of witnesses there is now a new exception to the hearsay rule. Namely, anything that convicts you is now admissible. A friend of a friend of a dead cat could have heard if and it’s admissible and fully credible.

-Right to face your accuser? Nah, they are all now “anonymous whistleblowers.”

-Mount your defense, please. That is now called “obstruction.” Obstruction of what, you wonder? Why, it’s obstruction your obvious guilt that is so obvious, it doesn’t require any evidence other than your political opposition.

-Any trial that should by chance end with your acquittal is illegitimate because it didn’t find your obvious guilt.

-What, innocent until proven guilty, you say. Nah, you can’t prove that you are not guilty.

-By the way, even if you can prove that you are innocent, you are guilty of the other crimes that you committed in the course of investigating the original crime you were accused of. In short, you obstructed the investigation that should have never been launched in the first place.

-There is good news: You won’t go to jail alone, All those people we tried to coerce into testifying against you but who would not will be there waiting for you.

The tally on the vote Wednesday will be a majority to vote guilty.

Nonsense. Nobody who voted against witnesses is going to vote to convict. That's 51 right there. Romney will probably vote to acquit. A couple of Dims will also vote to acquit. Probably 55/45 for acquittal.

No matter what happened, reporters would say it was bad for Trump because reporters MUST say it is bad for Trump....or those reporters will lose their standing as loyal party members.

Party loyalty above all else...communism.

The Labour Party in the UK said something similar.

That they lost the election, but won the argument.
