Were getting closer to the end of this impeachment circus, ladies and gentlemen. The four-year project the Democratic Party has cooked up against President Trump is about to fail. The writing was on the wall last night. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) signaled last night that was a solid no vote on new witnesses. He was the key vote. Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and Mitt Romney (R-UT) were also mulling siding with the Democrats on this initiative. With Alexanders decision, we could have lost Collins, Romney, and Murkowski and still block this motion. Instead, this morning Murkowski said she was voting no on new witnesses. Were primed for acquittal, folks. The final vote on witnesses was 51-49. Sadly, Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), the wild cards for Democrats, did not break ranks on this vote (via WSJ):
Senate Republicans rejected Democrats demands to call new witnesses and documents in President Trumps impeachment trial, clearing the way for a rapid acquittal on abuse of power and obstruction of Congress charges.
The vote Friday represented a major victory for Republican leadership, which has sought to complete the trial as quickly as possible and avoid testimony that could be politically damaging. Democrats had spent weeks calling for the Senate to subpoena former national security adviser John Bolton and other officials, seeking testimony about Mr. Trumps efforts to press Ukraine to launch investigations that could benefit him politically.
The measure was narrowly defeated, with 51 votes against the motion and 49 in favor. Two Republicans, Sens. Mitt Romney of Utah and Susan Collins of Maine, joined every Democrat to vote for the Senate to call in new witnesses, while every other Republican voted against it.
The next steps remained uncertain, as Senate leaders continued negotiations on a timetable. Lawmakers and aides said that the vote on whether to convict or acquit Mr. Trump may not take place until next week, likely on Wednesday.

Yeah, that tweet from the left-wing Center for America Progress is just great. The Democratic managers made their shoddy case for their soft coup attempt today. No one cares. We all see what this was from the beginning, the Lefts inability to deal with the results of the 2016 election. Democrats hate Trump. Its blinded them to make a promise of impeachment to their unhinged base. It forced them to hold this joke of an impeachment push on the Hill. Theyre responsible for this circus that has degraded the rule of law and our Congress. Its the Democrats who did this and in the process, theyve made Trump more popular than ever, the economy is still growing, and swing-state voters are decidedly sour on this clown show. In a twist of irony, the Democrats impeachment push might be the biggest in-kind contribution to Trumps re-election effort.
It is kind of funny watching the left whine about it right now...you know the ones that would NOT let GOP call witnesses in the House, or have Lawyers ask questions of their witnesses in the House and hid 1 transcript from the Senate..,democrats blocked a fair trial in the House. That is where all the info for the Senate to review comes from, the House. Seems like they should be mad at how Schiff and Nadar ran their impeachment hearings instead of trying to get their base to think it is all the GOPs fault.......but as the old saying goes..That’s Politics
Yes Biden is up there crowing. Kudos to Murkowski who made a statement that the witness calling would get worse as would the attacks on Roberts.

50% approve.
49% disapprove.
Putting Gropin’ Joe on the witness stand would’ve ended the malarkey.
Less than twenty four hours ago pundits speculated 4 to 5 Dems would courageously follow their conscience and vote on Trump’s side about witnesses, and we could call it bipartisan.
Zero did.
Hillary lost the election.
Hillary lost to Brexit.
Hillary failed with her effort for a soft coup.
Hillary lost.
McConnell has no guts at all. He should ram this impeachment down their throats. Most importantly it's clear this is being delayed so it's not settled during the state of the union.
Trump should immediately announce the state of the union address will be delayed until Thursday.
I think the republicans are very scared about the President doing exactly what I would prefer during the state of the union address and that is to ram it down their throats on national television. "Madam speaker, NOT GUILTY, NOW AND FOREVER".

yeah but that vote for witnesses provides cover for any Dems that vote to acquit ... i hope all 47 Dems vote to convict because:
1. proves the whole scam was totally partisan
2. voting to convict would REALLY hurt Doug Jones of Alabama and Joe Manchin of West Virginia ...
I suggest that our best strategy to prevent this nightmare from continuing into Trump’s second term is to elect a GOP majority in the house to take Pelosi, Schiff, and Nadler from power.
I like it. Good points.
Ergo Hillary is a loser.
Democrats keep their people in line. GOP not so much.
Dems are like tyrannical leaders viewing the troops pass in review in a military parade. All Dems obey.
GOP is like someone with a megaphone trying to convince a bunch of goats to wander back into the pen through an open gate. Some never go there.
In this picture the President’s hair makes him look like Boris Johnson more than usual. Or the other way around, of course.
The Rats wanted ONE witness. That person a certified War Hawk, fired / butt hurt and needing to sell a book. A caricature of a caricature. The Media would have gone 110% to rehabilitate him on the evening news as now the most credible man in the world. Romney is a hateful pric knowing a cult of a religion will back him into hell and back in Utah.
