Number of confirmed cases jumps by almost 2,000 in one day, as total figure tops 9,600 in China

China's National Health Commission has announced that as of the end-of Thursday January 30, the total number of confirmed Wuhan coronavirus cases in mainland China had risen to 9,692.

That's a jump of 1,982 from the previous day, with the total figure now far exceeding the number of cases associated with severe respiratory syndrome (SARS) in 2003 -- previously among Asia's worst outbreaks.

The death toll in mainland China has now reached 213, with 42 new deaths occurring in Hubei province -- the epicenter of the outbreak, and one in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang.

The death toll from the Wuhan coronavirus has risen in mainland China after more deaths were reported in the central province of Hubei.

Hubei’s health authority said that 42 additional deaths were reported Thursday, bringing the death toll in the epicenter of the Wuhan coronavirus to 204.

This brings the total number of deaths in mainland China to 213.

And there are 15,000 tests out on sick people. They probably only test if you are sick or possibly were in direct contact with infected.

Just saw where this Wuhan virus is a “lipid”. Isopropyl Alcohol of greater than 60% can kill it.

I was looking up if my old Clorox wipes (still soaking wet) are still effective. No expiration date on them - but not much info on the net. Did learn something though - to disenfect the surface needs to be wiped down and then remain wet for 4 minutes.

Using one wipe for a large counter or several areas just spreads the germs around. (I did know that).

From the previous post with the CDC link they say that the FDA has not approved any cleaners with alcohol as a disinfectent, but then the CDC goes on to say how effective alcohol is:

Ethyl alcohol, at concentrations of 60%–80%, is a potent virucidal agent inactivating all of the lipophilic viruses (e.g., herpes, vaccinia, and influenza virus) and many hydrophilic viruses (e.g., adenovirus, enterovirus, rhinovirus, and rotaviruses but not hepatitis A virus (HAV) 58 or poliovirus) 49.

Isopropyl alcohol is not active against the nonlipid enteroviruses but is fully active against the lipid viruses 72. Studies also have demonstrated the ability of ethyl and isopropyl alcohol to inactivate the hepatitis B virus(HBV) 224, 225 and the herpes virus, 490 and ethyl alcohol to inactivate human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) 227, rotavirus, echovirus, and astrovirus 491.

Wow. A 4 minute soaking basically. Gonna need a lot of that stuff. I have seen shoe dips where you basically step into a solution and it disinfects your soles, but that was for bacteria. Not viruses. I guess the worry is that the reported numbers are just made up numbers and the real death numbers could be far,far more....

I ordered masks from amazon two weeks ago, still have not shipped....luckily I got some at Home Depot...even if we don't have a pan epidemic,they'll be useful in our hot summer fire seasons.....

cheap goggles at dollar store...better than nothing.....also alcohol hand sanitizer....the same strength we use thru out the hospital.....

I tried getting Prevnar13. Haven’t found anyone willing. I’m not over age 65.

Looks like a province or country has to hit 50 known infected cases, before a death is recorded. But that’s with very fast transmission rates.
