Yup -- McConnell takes a lot of cheap shots because he capitulates too early if he thinks he doesn't have the votes.

But when he thinks the votes are in reach, he is generally excellent at gathering and holding those votes. And he's ruthless when he thinks he can win.

That's a good way of putting it. I definitely believe he capitulates too early.

I think the Democrats play to keep the ball in play because anything can happen while the ball is in play. It's all about the action.

McConnell plays the averages. He won't play if he thinks the odds are low, and too often the Republicans convince themselves that the odds are lower than they really are based on MSM coverage and Democrat manipulations.

I'd like to see McConnell and the Republicans engage the Democrats more often and play the ball, too. They may not win all the encounters they play, but they will certainly lose 100% of the encounters they don't play.
