If they get all 53 Republicans and around 10 Democrats to acquit, as I expect...

You have higher expectations than me. I don't expect a single dem to vote to acquit, and do expect Romney and one other to vote to convict.

If Manchin VA and Jones AL vote to remove Trump they are history. Jones may well be history anyway since he is running this year.

” I don’t expect a single dem to vote to acquit,”

Someone on Fox just said the same thing. He predicts it’ll go along strict party lines. (How can they be so stupid?)

Its just a guess, but that’s what I think.

What I’m basing that on is that crossover votes, where GOP senators vote with the Democrats, can be easily forgiven by voters when the vote is a process vote... I.e a vote on whether or not witnesses should be called.

However, Republican senators voting with the Democrats to convict - that is entirely different. Doing that will evoke a loud and angry response from every 2016 Trump voter, and nearly every Republican locally and nationally.

When justifying a vote with the Democrats to call John Bolton as witness, a GOP Senator can say they just want to hear all the facts - and assuming the President has nothing to hide, it will not hurt the president at all - sounds reasonable.

When trying to justifying a vote with the Democrats to convict and remove a Republican President on such flimsy grounds - I can’t even imagine what a GOP Senator would say - I think Republican voters everywhere would be horrified. The Senator would need to switch parties or quit politics altogether.

That’s why I’m pretty sure all 53 will acquit.
