My nephew’s name is “Pierce”, which is my grandmother’s maiden name.

Since your nom is MayflowerMadam, I suppose that approach to naming is common among a certain type of English. On my Brit side, the name "Aldrich" is also used sometimes as a first name (infamously, "Aldrich Ames"). Of course, Clark Kent received his first name from his adoptive mother's maiden name (Martha Clark).

My own background is predominantly Catholic, and so I lean towards first names that are first names, and am strongly inclined to saints' names (or names signifying virtue like "Faith").

I expect to get my next rejoinder from Pierce Brosnan.
