I think it is odd that McConnell disclosed this at this time. The vote wont occur until after questions. So I ask myself why. One reason is to get some Democrats on the hook who dont want witnesses and dont want to be on record for voting agaisnt. It’s not only a question of witnesses, it a question of time and the effect on voters. The longer the trial goes on, the more Trump solidified his base and the more independents move toward Trump. I dont see a lot of upside for Democrats in prolonging the trial. So I wonder if McConnell is trying to smoke out some Democrats.

Very good point, and I am wondering the same. Even if true, why would you let that information out now? Could it be to take pressure off those 4-5 R’s for a few days, and give them some cover? Smoke out some dems who don’t really want to drag this out. I saw something this afternoon, that some of the 2020 candidates who are in the senate want to just vote and get it over with.

This is Kavenaugh 2.0. In the end, Mitch came through with Kavenaugh and is killing it on the federal judges. So lets see how this plays out. The senate is a group that really likes to compromise, so there may be some deal to allow something else.
