The deadly animal-borne coronavirus spreading globally may have originated in a laboratory in the city of Wuhan linked to China’s covert biological weapons program, said an Israeli biological warfare analyst.
Radio Free Asia last week rebroadcast a Wuhan television report from 2015 showing China’s most advanced virus research laboratory, known the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The laboratory is the only declared site in China capable of working with deadly viruses.
Dany Shoham, a former Israeli military intelligence officer who has studied Chinese biological warfare, said the institute is linked to Beijing’s covert bio-weapons program.
“Certain laboratories in the institute have probably been engaged, in terms of research and development, in Chinese [biological weapons], at least collaterally, yet not as a principal facility of the Chinese BW alignment,” Mr. Shoham told The Washington Times.
Work on biological weapons is conducted as part of dual civilian-military research and is “definitely covert,” he said in an email.
...Gao Fu, director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, told state-controlled media that initial signs indicated the virus originated from wild animals sold at a seafood market in Wuhan.
One ominous sign, said a U.S. official, is that false rumors circulating on the Chinese internet claim the virus is part of a U.S. conspiracy to spread germ weapons. That could indicate China is preparing propaganda outlets to counter any charges that the new coronavirus escaped from one of Wuhan’s civilian or defense research laboratories.
The WHO is calling the microbe novel coronavirus 2019-nCoV... (Thursday) the organization stopped short of declaring a public health emergency of international concern.
China has deployed military forces to Wuhan to halt all travel out of the city of 11 million people in an effort to contain the outbreak of the virus, which causes pneumonialike symptoms...

China’s billion here, billion there, population, where people do not walk in crowds, the crowds walk you, are really a vulnerable unsustainable disaster.

The interview is with Dr. Steven Hatfill, who was the postdoc at USAMRIID that the FBI initially tried to frame for the anthrax letters.
I never met Hatfill, but since I started working at RIID a few months after he left, I heard a lot about him. Mainly that he was fingered by people who didn’t like him. And the FBI took it from there. I’m glad he prevailed in the lawsuit. It’s a shame Bruce Ivins broke under the pressure when the FBI later framed him.
Why would anyone make a bio weapons that kills only 3%?

There’s always room for reconsidering. But, what is our interest? In real time, it is to stop a series of attacks, whether anthrax-laced letters (this matter), mail bombs (Unibomber), attacks on police headquarters (Weathermen Underground), or a series of assassinations by rifle (DC Sniper). After stopping the series of attacks, there are matters of justice and of policy. There is also a puriant interest. Where it is suspected that madness was involved, in a person who had been a life-long public servant, a certain decency should prevail. My original post concerned the possibility that the outbreak of coronavirus in China originated in a government bio-warfare lab.
Not sure what is worse - that it broke out because they literally eat everything or it is a biowarfare accident.

The outbreak may have roots as far back as early October, which cases were interpreted as just plain flu. This is much more early than my two month suggestion only days ago.
I do not take a book as evidence. Books typically are written with a particular premise in mind, and all of the evidence is presented in such a way as to support the premise.
The fact that the National Academy of Sciences found that the evidence was not definitive--it did not link Dr. Ivins to the strain of anthrax used--is a strong clue that the FBI framed him with circumstantial evidence, hearsay, and innuendo. It is similar to the way in which they and Congress have attempted to frame President Trump.
Dr. Ivins killed himself because of the incredible pressure the FBI placed on him. They targeted his family. They targeted him. They were abusive. He broke when they told him he was being arraigned.
At work, he was not one of those creepy people that gives off the sensation that he is deeply disturbed. Rather, he was a fairly outgoing, friendly guy. And he was the leading expert on anthrax bacteria. Any time I hear someone from USAMRIID mention the matter, they throw in a caveat that they do not believe the FBI narrative.

An official Chinese government biowar lab was not responsible. If the source was a biowar lab, it was one of the many tiny unofficial biowar labs operated by idiot minions of a local VIP, and had pretty much no medical or physical security.
