Aviation authorities on Friday said over 600 Chinese tourists who had entered the country on separate flights from the Chinese city of Wuhan must return home as scheduled in their package tours, giving them no time to extend their stay or to visit other parts of the Philippines.

The unprecedented move to send home such a large number of tourists as soon as possible was approved by Transport Secretary Arthur Tugade on Thursday as the government tightened measures to isolate the country from the potentially deadly novel coronavirus that health experts said had originated in Wuhan.

Go home as scheduled.

Why is that a *Yikes*?

It doesn't sound like they are sending them home early. Just that they cannot extend their stay.

There is that.

I saw that thread and yeah, I would not want to go back either.

Problem is, The Philippines is not going to stop anything from the people who are already there. I can see not letting anyone new in, but for those already there, it’s too late.

Maybe a tent city and drop off food and supplies until a reasonable quarantine period is up and then let them stay. I’m sure they’d be willing to work in exchange for food, clothing, and shelter.

Make them screen other passengers.

All I care about is what America is doing. This cannot get out of hand as we have so many who think open borders is just great. The scare alone will kick the economy in the gut and the left will totally love it.

Just curious, but what about next year. Will the virus be back after wrecking havoc in the Southern Hemisphere?

The US should be almost entirely unscathed due to our high levels of health care and sanitation. Cases that arise here will be quickly detected and isolated. This will limit transmission, far more so than in China. In addition, effective treatment regimens will be developed and applied so as to save the lives of most who become infected.

Quarantine everyone who comes into the United States from China, either directly or indirectly.

Good rule of thumb is wash hands and keep your fingers away from your face....would go far in preventing spread of many winter colds and flu viruses....at least it’s worked well for me.

Flu and coronaviruses are spread by airborn routes. Hand washing is good practice but it won’t defend you from them.

People shed flu virus simply by exhaling. Coughs and sneezing aren’t necessary.

And sanitize shopping carts and baskets before touching them. Also, take strong preventative doses of Vitamin D, and a Vitamin D hammer if you get the flu or a cold.

I understand that but I’m not about living life daily because A cold or flu virus might be in the air. But I also don’t walk in the middle of the street and hope no cars hit me either.

Being aware of this Chinese virus, where it’s at in the states is a good thing....but I won’t live in a vacume of fear driven paranoia... rather I’ll be watching how the US handles the cases we have or get.

When and if it hits my area then I’ll cross that bridge then. However I wouldn’t be quick to fly anywhere abroad at this point.

Google the terms Vitamin D and flu, especially Vitamin D hammer and flu. The science is fairly strong, with supportive Cochrane Review articles even that can be found via PubMed and accessed via most libraries.

—————————”Vitamin D Hammer”———————————

“A colleague of mine and I have introduced vitamin D at doses that have achieved greater than 100 nmol/L in most of our patients for the past number of years, and we now see very few patients in our clinics with the flu or influenzalike illness. In those patients who do have influenza, we have treated them with the vitamin D hammer, as coined by my colleague. This is a 1-time 50 000 IU dose of vitamin D3 or 10 000 IU 3 times daily for 2 to 3 days. The results are dramatic, with complete resolution of symptoms in 48 to 72 hours. One-time doses of vitamin D at this level have been used safely and have never been shown to be toxic.8 We urgently need a study of this intervention. The cost of vitamin D is about a penny for 1000 IU, so this treatment costs less than a dollar.”
