Florida man was arrested last week after he was caught on video pointing a laser — attached to an AR-15 — at a police helicopter flying overhead, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said Friday. The sheriff’s office chopper was working with Port St Lucie Police on an unrelated burglary last Saturday when the incident took place, the sheriff’s office said. A video camera onboard the helicopter captured Norman Flaxman walking outside his home, pointing the rifle directly at the helicopter and “deploying the laser two to three times,” deputies said.

Florida Man is out of bail.
Darkness is the state agent’s friend.
Their vision in the dark is better than yours in the light.
My guess is that this guy was drunk and disorderly. And threatening with a deadly weapon.
That is a really stupid thing to do.
And you can often not see what you’ve pointed at.
I had a neighbors kids playing with a laser shining it at my house once, it was NOT something you could miss- it lit up my windows and was clearly traceable right back to the source.
But when I went over to see what they were up to they showed me and I pointed it at my windows to see- and you could barely see it at that distance on my house. But from the inside it was very highly visible.
At 5 or 10 feet away it’s a point of laser light- but at 3 hundred yards the beam is a yard (or more) wide.
(PS the kids were just playing with their new toy- nothing bad was intended)

The copter can be rather annoying, but still. I live in St. Lucie County and the area I’m in is often used as a training area for the sheriff’s copter. Last night it was flying around well past 1 AM. Now in the past when it is so persistent I have called to see if there was any cause for alarm. But an AR15, nope.

Well they should take it away from them before they point it at a helicopter.
This was attempted murder. This guy should get more than the slap on the wrist he got.
I seem to recall police aiming guns w/lasers at civilians all the time.
Watch ‘live PD’ and you will see police pulling out sidearms regularly for a broken taillight, cracked windshield.
That said it is stupid for ANYONE to point a laser near anyone.

He was actually aiming at Pluto when the chopper flew into his aim. /s
