For a time, Disney World in Orlando had a small linear magnetic people mover that provided an elevated ride around Tomorrowland. Looking back, some of the engineering must have been figuring out how to provide a smooth ride for passenger cars that had widely varying loads. In concept, that same kind of problem must have bedeviled the EMALS system.
The problem is not the ride, it is how often can it fire off. It has to meet the same combat sortie rate as wire systems.
