I think it is possible, that the Dems are afraid that we might learn that for DECADES, they have voted for foreign aid and huge domestic spending, and the money gets kicked back to them and their family members. Democrat have become spectacularly wealthy off the taxpayers. (All the while they agitate for more tax increases and accuse us of not paying our fair share.)
The pattern of self enrichment on the national level can then be copied at the state level. The question again being how much money is allocated to state projects and propositions which finds its way back into the pockets of the politicians and their families and friends.
To be clear though, while the Dems are forced into protecting Hunter and his goofy dad Joe, still, they are furious with them. Those two clowns have exposed and imperiled the whole damned corrupt river of cash that the Democrats consider their own.
