A lot of basement fallout shelters did double duty as rathskellers and often the entire cellar was finished out as a game room or den.
I also remember the morality debates about keeping out neighbors who hadn’t built their own shelters.
Twilight Zone dealt with this. The real dilemma came when the invading neighbors learned the radar blips were false & there was no danger of nuclear war.
Followed by a cold war at neighborhood level.
Ah yes, "The Shelter"....a perfect dichotomy between Liberals and Conservatives, Liberals demanding that those who were responsible bail out those who weren't.
