But the movie made Barbra’s character out to be the fool.
At least that was how I interpreted it at the time.
“But the movie made Barbras character out to be the fool.”
Not really a fool, but an overzealous, small picture citizen that had no idea of the reality about what truth or future/past existence actually was. You know, a typical elite liberal/socialist. The cause outweighed that reality in the character’s mind. Kind of like Streisand today. The only real difference was that Streisand’s character went from cause to cause more rapidly. If you’ll remember, at the end of the movie she was involved with nuclear proliferation which was hot at the time. And Babs is hot in her causes today since she has no further need for people to fill seats at her concerts or movies.
Happens a lot in “Hollywood.” Harry Belafonte, Susan Sarandon, Brigitte Bardot, Ed Asner, Pam Anderson, Liz Taylor...there are more. But all have in common that their career is waning so they feel they can speak up for their cause as it won’t hurt them other than being self-made to look stupid.
