MADISON, CT - So-called "Supercharging" Tesla stations will soon be open on both sides of Interstate 95 in Madison.

Superchargers are under construction at the 95 Madison rest areas, both northbound and southbound, between exits 61 and 62. Both are 10 stalls.

Currently the nearest Superchargers are located in Milford.

Tesla supercharging stations charge support peak rates of up to 250kW per car. AModel 3 Long Range operating at peak efficiency can recover up to 75 miles of charge in 5 minutes and charge at rates of up to 1,000 miles per hour.

V3 Supercharging will ultimately cut the amount of time customers spend charging by an average of 50%.

does supercharging and/or partial charging (75 mile charge vs 1000 mile charge) reduce/impact battery life?

It came out of the ground from a power plant.

It’s good to know that they will only have to push their car to the side of the road.

Funny, when a gas station opens with 20 pumps, we don't say "20 filling stations open". It's TWO charging stations. ONE on each side of the freeway. 20 would actually be a significant story.

Or who's money is paying for it.

Or if it was put to a vote, or just crammed down the taxpayer's throats to pay for powering a few boutique golf karts.

1,000 miles per hour! That’s a fast Tesla.

Generally speaking, once one is in the range where charging significantly heats the battery, the faster the charge, the greater the effect (negative) on battery life. This source states the fast chargers DO reduce battery life:

https://www.solarreviews.com/blog/how-do-tesla-chargers-compare-to-other-electric-car-chargers

Lead acid batteries actually need a fairly healthy charge rate now and then - say, 20 amps or somewhat more, to reduce sulfation and such. But, these are of course not lead-acid batteries, and 250 KW @ ~400 volts (if that is the charge voltage) is another universe.

I was also thinking: If all 20 stalls were fast charging at the same time, that's 5 MEGAwatts, right there, even before any losses are factored in. To go electric for everyone? Holy g-moley…

We tend to forget just how much energy is in a tank of gas, and how conveniently we use it or obtain it. I can fill my car from near empty to go over 350 miles in a couple minutes -- assuming I don't get a "slow" gas pump. This "Supercharging" technology takes almost 25 minutes to do the same thing, operating at "peak efficiency" (if that's even obtainable over a full charge cycle.) I assume the electricity is cheaper than gas, but, time IS money. At my age, it's other things, too!

Tesla provides the power and costs. Tesla owners don't have to pay at Tesla stations, unlike other electric car owners who have to pay at electric chargers away from home.

I wonder why nobody ever considered steam.

Yes, to make steam you need to have fuel but, they made steam cars that would cycle in minutes and you could quick couple them to your homes in the winter for heat..believe it.

Besides that, there was far less moving parts within those cars. The engine was the brake, direct drive and all that.

It's worse than you imagine. Tesla is not only producing several models of cars for ordinary citizens, Tesla is beginning to market fleet trucks to businesses. Not just little trucks like the Cybertruck (which is not a compact truck and has over 500 mile range), but semi haulers that are huge. Now imagine these semi-trucks pulling off the road by the hundreds to charge up.

I wonder how long it will take some one to figure out how to run their house off grid with the free electricity they get from the government?
