Old article that I somehow did not find when this first happened. Probably suppressed by google. I post link to it now as Virginia is on its way to having its own red flag law.

But Democrats won’t use red flag laws on known criminals.

The red flag laws are already being abused, too.

That morning, Willis and Hooper struggled for the gun. She would later tell investigators she had to push the muzzle away from her. One round fired from the revolver, exploding the pen she held. Forensic investigators later found only Willis’ DNA on the trigger.

After the gun went off, Zawodny shot Willis five times. The officer told investigators he didn’t know the revolver went off. As Willis collapsed, Hooper held onto the revolver.

Claude de Vastey Jones, then a deputy state’s attorney for the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office, wrote in a Dec. 7 letter to the lead detective that she had reviewed all the evidence provided by police, forensic analysis, witness and officer statements.

She found the shooting was justified and recommended no criminal charges because Willis pointed the revolver at Hooper and did not obey the officers’ demands to put the gun down.
