Honduras produces high numbers of people seeking asylum: In 2017, the most recent year for which data is available, the US granted asylum to 2,048 migrants from Honduras, compared with 1,048 from Mexico, 3,471 from El Salvador, and 2,954 from Guatemala.
Asylum is supposed to be limited to very special circumstances, such as the minority party after a bloody coup, or civilians within the area of a major local war. It has to do with government oppression, not crappy farmers or cartel issues.
What these US should do is put out a notifier that certain countries (if not all of them) are not eligible for asylum at all. Any remainder has to go through the proper process, and GOES BACK after the asylum-eligible circumstances are over.
