Can someone help me understand why Jewell was thrown under the bus in the 1st place?

Pretty sure they just really wanted it not to be Islamic terrorism, so they pinned it on the white guy.

Cops needed a quick resolve and the press gave it to them aided by reporter Kathy Scruggs

My guess is that a reporter heard a rumor or a “what if” scenario and the BS story took on life of it’s own.

Jewell fit the profile of a red neck, right wing gun owner who lived with his mama. Not complicated.

The best part of Jewell was when the female AJC reporter traded sex with the FBI case agent for inside info. That was great.

A. Because of a snotty college dean (professor)
B. Because of a FBI behavioral analyst
C. Because of the media (Atlanta Journal and CNN)
They needed a quick answer about who did it rather than the right answer and poor Richard Jewell was their patsy.

Great movie: I hate giving money to Hollywood, but Eastwood tells a good story about a sad event.

It was a rush to judgment by corrupt FBI and newspaper people who were simply ambitious to be heroes, and who regarded Jewell as stupid and unworthy—sort of how the Democrats view ordinary Americans. In reality, he was just an easy target, until he got a lawyer who believed in him.

FBI and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution didn't investigate the simple facts that would exonerate him before they ran with the story, and didn't care if using him to polish their own lustre would destroy him and his mother—once they decided it was him, they didn't want to back down because they would look like the ego-driven fools they were.

Because human(?) scum like Andrea Peyser of the NY Post wanted to show just how vicious and brutal her prose could be while she was trying to “make a difference.”

BTW, the NY Post and Peyser settled out of court with Jewell and that waste of human flesh Peyser, kept her job.
