I sat through his latest movie “The Irishman” only because my family was watching it, and it was horrible. One of the worst movies I ever saw in my life, and I say that not because DeNiro was in it, but because it WAS. I could not believe Martin Scorsese directed it, it was like watching some amateur crap made by a High school kid.
First off he had 80 year old guys making pretend they were 30 and it was laughable. Robert DeNiro in a fight scene and he could barely walk never mind punch and the guy he is fighting makes pretend he is getting his butt kissed, it was hilariously fake. And then Joe Pesci acting like he wanted to be any other place than there, barely showing one ounce of emotion. But the absolute worst was Al Pacino playing Jimmy Hoffa. It was like watching Lt. Col. Frank Slade with a bizarre wig glued to the top of his head “Oooo wah! I’m Jimmy Hoffa! ooo wah!” Just a total joke and of course Hollywood is going to shower it with awards.
I watched about a third of the Irishman before I had to turn it off. I thought it was boring, awkward (as you said) watching senior citizens playing 30 year old tough guys and I kept wondering why the Hell they did it. Did they really need the money? It seemed like a parody of a bad Hollywood producers meeting to get the old gang of Mob movie actors together for one last fling. In the 70s and 80s, they were great in these movies. Now its a farce. It really is.
Well, you have convinced me to skip it.
