GOP Lawmakers Slam Pelosi's Golden Pens, But Ted Cruz Had the Best Response

Despite House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s insistence that impeachment was a “somber” and "sad" event, her signing of the articles of impeachment Wednesday showed how serious she was about her past claims.

As Beth reported, even CNN commentators called her out over the optics of her smiling, taking photographs, and handing out pens delivered on silver platters.

Nancy Pelosi’s souvenir pens served up on silver platters to sign the sham articles of impeachment...She was so somber as she gave them away to people like prizes. https://t.co/RMOiNeoMu0— Stephanie Grisham (@PressSec) January 15, 2020

"I thought that was a little jarring and certainly, I think, off message," said CNN’s senior political reporter Nia-Malika.

Republican lawmakers agreed.

Rep. Jody Hice said the speaker's "'engrossment ceremony' proves that she cares more about politics than truth."

-Souvenir pens
-A Ceremony

This is how “serious, sad, and somber” Democrats are when sending the articles of impeachment to the Senate.

Rep. Steve Scalise commented that Democrats' behavior on Wednesday was "unbelievable."

So much for “somber” and “solemn.”

House Dems are so excited about impeachment that they’re passing out commemorative pens and grinning for photos at a celebration ceremony.

Unbelievable. pic.twitter.com/GQUfG8VZQi— Steve Scalise (@SteveScalise) January 15, 2020

Rep. Mark Meadows said "you can't make up" what happened Wednesday during the signing.

They claim it's a somber, serious occasion they're heartbroken over... and then they pass out impeachment-signing pens with special cases. Folks. You can't make it up. https://t.co/jl9VKD8cUc— Mark Meadows (@RepMarkMeadows) January 15, 2020

And Rep. Paul Gosar characterized it as another "made for TV moment at the expense of our Country."

This is neither a “somber” nor is it a “serious” process for House Democrats it’s just another made for TV moment at the expense of our Country.

But Sen. Ted Cruz had the best response, joking that crayons would've been more appropriate for Pelosi to use.

Given the circus in the House, I’m surprised she didn’t use crayons. ?? ?? ?? https://t.co/hGTIGvb2Ey— Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) January 16, 2020

Speaking to Fox News on Wednesday, Cruz said the silver lining is that "Pelosi's circus is done" and now impeachment is in the Senate's hands.

"The good news is the partisan circus in the House is over. Nancy Pelosi’s circus is done. And we’re not going to see the one-sided show trial that the House has engaged in for months and months and months," he said. "That farce is over. In the Senate, here’s what I hope happens; I hope the Senate — I’m confident the Senate will conduct a fair trial. That means we’ll give the House managers an opportunity to present their case.

"We’ll listen to what they have to say; but then we’re going to do something that the House didn’t do: which is we’re going to give President Trump a full opportunity to defend himself, to present his case, to lay out the facts and evidence in law that the House ignored."

Cruz said he believes President Trump will be acquitted.

"And so we’ve moved out of Nancy Pelosi’s world," he continued. "It’s why she delayed this for so long, because she knew that once the House no longer had it, that they wouldn’t be able to put on a kangaroo court like they have, and instead we’re going to move in the Senate, where I hope and believe we’re going to follow the law, and that means we’re going to acquit the president."

Pelosi kept a hundred of the pens. They are mini-flasks that are filled with vodka. When ever she needs a sip, she pulls one out and sticks it in her mouth to suck out the booze. Her aids refill them when they are empty.

Amazon sells Trump pens that can punch. They were a great hit over the holidays.

they pass out impeachment-signing pens with special cases.

maybe that’s the reason for the delay, Nancy’s special order pens were not ready.

If Nancy had some golden shovels and silver dust pans, she could go home and clean up the human poop on the sidewalks of San Francisco. That would help Make America Great Again!

It matters not what the Senate does. The Rats already have the next 12 months plotted to disparage Trump and the gutless pubes. This will never end, whether the Rats win or lose. Trump needs to be playing 6D chess, cuz the gutless Pubes have no idea what that entails.

I will go one step further. The pen tips look like the cartridges used by Lee Harvey Oswald. Two AOI, at least two “bullets”. She was hinting at “house painters”. Where did we here about the left’s obsession with symbolism?

I heard that the cost to the taxpayers of the gold pens, at $2025.00 each, plus the sterling silver serving trays, was $105,000.00.

Don’t like the way the country is governed? Come up with a superior message, sell it to enough voters and stop with the whining, already.

Or leave what you say is oppressive and start over in whatever better place you manage to find.

I just sent my rep. steve scalise an email requesting he provide information regarding the cost of the pens an silver platters, who purchased them, who authorized their purchase, and was their purchase legal if they were purchased with tax dollars.....we should all do the same with our reps.

Given the comical, nonsensical nature of how Pelosi and the ‘rats have run the process and conducted themselves I’m surprised they weren’t wearing big red noses and the pens didn’t squirt ink out in their faces.

The potential to backstab the POTUS still remains.

I hope Cruz is right. I trust the GOP Senate less than the Dem House. For Trump and the country the I hope the GOP Senate does the right thing. I hope that disgusting Romney will find his conscience and do the right thing for the President. If he stabs the President in the back, which he is most likely to do, he should be expelled from the Party. Let him explain that to the Utah voters.

Cruz “believes the President will be acquitted”. That tells me that there are more than several GOP senators that will vote to convict. I expect about 10 or 12 to defect and vote with the democrats regardless of evidence. They’ll do it to demonstrate that they’re bipartisan.

If 10-12 are stupid enough to do that. They would lose the next election cycle. ( A minimum of 30% Republican voters would be no-shows in their respective states!) That would mean the Rats would have the Senate with a near 60 majority and would run roughshod over what GOP’ers are left as well as any GOP administration.

Even the dimmest RINO knows the GOP is trump’s party now.

Who paid for the pens?

Imagine a non-partisan skeptical media, they might just ask her.
