Democrats’ strategy for the Senate impeachment trial is apparently to turn it into a never-ending Senate investigation — even though that was supposed to be the House’s job.
Start with the General Accounting Office opinion that Team Trump’s temporary hold on aid to Ukraine constitutes a violation of the law. Maybe — but the GAO is no kind of court or other legal authority. If this was a real issue, the House could’ve raised it long ago. “We forgot” is just an old Steve Martin joke.
Then there’s the claim that assertions by Rudy Giuliani crony — well, ex-crony — Lev Parnas just plain compel the Senate to consider “new evidence” and call witnesses to get to the bottom of the Ukraine affair.

As I predicted and expressed here weeks ago. This circus will continue through 2024 unless there is a dismissal.
Let the House present their case. Vote on it. If the Dems want to call more witnesses, then let the House do another investigation and impeach Trump again. It is NOT the Senate’s job to do the investigation.
The first question to Parnas is: were you an eyewitness firsthand knowledge to any info?
The senate has no authority to conduct investigations. Not their job.
They are already planning to do exactly that.

Which will just further prove that they have bastardized the impeachment process for political gain- it will only serve to prove that the left can’t win elections, so they have to resort to FALSELY impeaching the President hoping that something they throw against the wall will eventually stick enough that they can drive him from office AGAINST the will of the people
The left have nothing- no evidence of any wrong doing- and this whole witch hunt has proven that- they are just digging deeper and deeper holes- and the people are seeing right through it
Impeachment is NOT a tool to remove a president just because one party doesn’t like him or her- but sadly the left have so bastardized the process that it’s now a joke- and meaningless-
Even with a dismissal, they will not stop- they will keep slinging crap against the wall till they believe something actually sticks- They are ‘Crime Shopping’, or ‘Crime Hunting’ - they have no crime, so they are trying to invent one out of thin air, and they will not stop because their hate for Donald and his supporters is so great they are blind with fury- a demonically inspired fury
That’s what happens when no one is held accountable. Escalation until someone is.
The rules written (by the Senate itself) allows for witnesses to be called up (subpoenaed), and cross-examination. But Mitch controls some of the actions here, and Justice Roberts is basically left to be an umpire. They could call all of the past witnesses that appeared in the House, and this time...ask more difficult questions. I would suspect Cruz to be ‘brilliant’ in this role, and reset the stage in a matter of a day or two.
I can't stand the guy for much, and I don't trust him on policy more than I can throw him, but he OWNS Senate procedure, and he will not be pushed around by the Democrats the way the Senate Judiciary committee was during Kavanaugh hearings.
I expect a totally disciplined event.

It occurred to me last night mitch’s best path forward following the ridiculous “pageantry” of Pelosi is make the trial last weeks and make it so boring the TV ratings go to absolute zero. Make it so boring an actual channel of paint drying gets higher ratings. And then make it last. The Rats want impeachment? Frigging bury them in it.

If they’re not ready to try what they’ve got, dismiss it for lack of prosecution.

Exactly!..the Impeachment was brought and is based on those witness's only! (I believe there were eleven of them)......
Call them up...Let Cruz cross examine them and then vote!!
If the Dems want more witnesses they can go back to the house and start a new inquiry.....

Democrats can withdraw their case and call new witnesses. No one will think the less of it if they do.
The risk for them is it will likely lead nowhere and they would be forced to drop it but still a better outcome than an acquittal by the Senate.
Last thing on earth they want is Trump bragging about his exoneration until they election.
So Democrats need to decide whether they want to go forward or to withdraw their case.
