Newsom Restarts Project to Build Underground Tunnel to Pump Billions of Gallons of Water to SoCal

California’s governor has restarted a project to build a giant, underground tunnel that would pump billions of gallons of water from the San Joaquin Delta to the southern part of the state.

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration on Wednesday issued a Notice of Preparation for the project, which is the first step in the state’s lengthy environmental review process.

Last year, Newsom halted a similar project that would have built two tunnels for the same purpose. The new project will have only one tunnel, and it will carry less water. State officials don’t know how much it will cost.

The tunnel would be a major addition to the State Water Project, the complex system of reservoirs, aqueducts and pumping plants that deliver water to more than 27 million Californians and 3 million acres of farmland. The water comes from rain and snow in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Newsom doesn’t care about the 3,000,000 acres of farmland.

Not enough votes to harvest.

Interesting. This Monday past we received a robo-call from MWD informing us to cut down on watering/don’t water outside for what totaled about thirteen days.

The Metro Water District told us it was for connecting some new system in which water would be sent from Southern California to Northern California. At least that’s what we heard on the recording. Seemed somewhat backwards to us.

Now this article makes more sense, but still don’t trust what they say as Newsom is a Democrat, and I’ve yet to find any reason to trust anything a Democrat says.

We have signed the petition. The right one. ranaf.org

State officials don’t know how much it will cost.

Does that matter if they don't know how much it will cost?

Every time they propose a project with a stated cost, it ends up costing ten times as much. Or ends up continually sucking additional taxes forever with no cap on costs.

Nothing ever comes in below stated costs. Ever. Bad project, end it before it begins.

I don’t know the particulars but this beats the hell out of pissing away money on a high speed rail from Merced to Bakersfield.

I can see one day where the total idiocy now of these morons could lead to a good portion of farmland turning to dust and a crisis of a lack of enough water for an over populated region. The sick irony is that they have plenty of water right next to them in the Pacific. The technology is almost perfected and would cost less in the long run.

I guess over a trillion(with a T) gallons a year out of the Colorado River isn’t enough. Maybe Lake Mead can rise after these guzzle guts find a new source.

here is how this plays out: a couple of thousand lawyers get rich. several tens of thousands of environmental activists have employment for a decade. rachel maddow gets programming material after her treatment for TDS and her delusional fear of russians. imaginary snail darters avoid imaginary extinction.

no one gets water.

Yup. Instead, the state diverts trillions of gallons of fresh water into the Pacific Ocean.
