Ping.
I am following this story with some concern.
It's spreading.
Many cold viruses are coronaviruses. So, if I had to guess, I would say that it transmits fairly easily.
I thought you had to eat a bat to get this ...
“Wonder how easy it is to contract? The guy flew back to Japan I assume.”
Earlier this week, I posted about people getting this virus and getting on planes and flying the virus to new areas around the world.
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
If its only inflected dozens in China probably not too bad.
Well, crap.
Does this mean I cant keep trying recipes with the seafood from the local Asian market here in Denver?
Japan has confirmed its first case of pneumonia caused by a new coronavirus
from (Wuhan) China, the health ministry said Thursday.
A Chinese national in his 30s who lives in Kanagawa Prefecture tested positive for the virus, the ministry said.
He returned from Wuhan on Jan. 6 and was hospitalized on Jan. 10,
but has already recovered and was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday
The chances are slim that the infection will spread (in Japan), a health ministry official said.
Coronaviruses usually cause common-cold symptoms, infecting the nose, sinuses
or upper throat, and are spread through sneezing, coughing or direct contact.
The man developed a fever on Jan. 3 while in Wuhan.
He is now at home recuperating, the ministry said.
His fever is gone but he has a slight cough.
The man passed the quarantine test at the airport upon his return because he had taken some medicine.
I was in Seol South Korea earlier today and now in Bangkok. People are wearing masks in public both places.
Even police, airport and immigration officials. I wore one for the first time during a 19 hr flight as people were coughing, sniffling and sneezing.
