Now that’s what I call a well written article.

Traitors are exposing themselves left and right. There are other options which are becoming necessary. We have been in need of a Constitutional restart for awhile.

Which one’s are up for re-election soon, in pink or blue states?

It’s a lot easier to look fair to independents if you allow the trial rather than to dismiss it right away and you know the DNC will sink a lot of money into pointing this out in their ads before the next election.

I am not surprised. I always thought there had to be enough dirt on enough RINOs that they were NOT reliable to stick with the president. The obvious ones, Collins, Murkowski, Romney, can always count on someone doing some grandstanding....Paul, Lee, Portman, and now Gaetz.

The Democrat Party of today is truly traitorous. They mean to destroy America as founded and remake it into their perverted version of an authoritarian, statist nightmare.

That happens to be the Founding Principles of the Democrat Party

The outcome is known already. The question is the amount of drama will be added to the dish.

The author should perhaps have had only one cup of coffee instead of...eight, before writing that.

It's annoying that some of those Republicans aren't willing to dismiss out of the box, but I don't think they're doing it "trying to make a name" for themselves, as the author claimed. Rather, they're generally those Republicans who are up for election, whose seats aren't secure, and who may have a tough time defending a vote to dismiss before the case even gets started in the Senate.

For political reasons -- basically, not getting beaten by a Democrat in November -- they want to maintain at least an image of neutrality. So, they won't vote to dismiss before the case gets started. That does not mean they won't vote to acquit, because a vote to acquit after a trial lets you claim that you were at least "open-minded".

Each of them should just admit they are Democrats at heart and switch parties.

That is wildly premature, and almost certainly wrong. The author is equating a vote to proceed to trial -- which is what a somewhat squishy Republican might do -- with a vote to convict, which is where the dividing line for GOP v. Rat is really going to matter.

Freepers living in states with RINO senators should contact and encourage their conservative friends to contact - those senators and read them the riot act.

Something I don't quite understand. A RINO senator may act to satisfy moderates and leftists but why doesn't he fear losing conservative votes, without which he/she would not be elected. Are we to believe that all the republican voters in these RINO states are moderates and leftists?

I think the answer to this puzzle is that senators like Collins simply take the republican vote for granted knowing that the alternative is electing a democrat.

In the broadest view, the senate rules of impeachment first accept the articles and then forward the articles to the Senate Judiciary committee for review. I believe it is here that the “trial” that President Trump wants can and should occur. It would be during this “review” that I believe the President’s legal team should be granted the same rights that the House Judiciary committee were granted and also limit the House managers to the same rules that were afforded to the President during the House impeachment hearings.

After all, what is good for the goose is good for the gander. It would force the Dems to defend their one sided approach.

Not as it stands now, no. It’s better for Trump to go through the farce of a trial and have them vote to acquit. That ends it. Dismiss and the Democrats will flood the airwaves with ads on how the Senate refused to hold a trial because they knew Trump was guilty.

To convict an accused, "the concurrence of two thirds of the
[Senators] present" for at least one article is required.
If there is no
single charge commanding a "guilty" vote from two-thirds of the senators
present, the defendant is acquitted and no punishment is imposed.

“Whoa! GOP does not have 51 votes to dismiss?”

Welcome to the party, pal.

McConnell said in early December that there was not a majority in the caucus to dismiss. That means that there are AT LEAST 27 GOP “no” votes on a motion to dismiss. Never mind “don’t have 51”, they don’t have 27.

And Jeff Flake said there are 35 GOP votes to convict, if the Senators were allowed to vote in secret. Now, allowing for the fact that Flake is a rejected BS artist, nobody on the GOP side of the aisle called him a liar.

All this “The impeachment is DOA, GOP Senate says bye-bye to impeachment, the GOP will shut it down” is foolish nonsense. Aren’t you paying attention to what these creatures have done to resist Trump, disrupt his government, while praying for his fall?

What do you think the GOP is, really?

Slow down Patty. You are making a lot of conclusions based on enemedia reporting. Let’s all calm down and see what happens when (or if) the Senate actually gets the articles delivered. Then we can get in a focused uproar.

We’re in that awkward period between there being factual new to report and known future events that will produce factual news. It’s when those that get paid for writing “news” make stuff up.

I completely disagree that these losers should become Democrats. If that happened, we’d have Majority Leader Schumer. I’ll keep these losers, thank you. These narcissists dance to the media’s tune. They know the media hates Republicans and the surest way to get easy publicity is to give the media what they want. In the end, we’re still better off with them than without them. I despise them as much as the next person, but I can do math and we need them.
