Biden’s Iraq Mess
WSJ ^ | Jan. 13, 2020 6:26 pm ET | The Editorial Board

Donald Trump’s military strike against terrorist leader Qasem Soleimani hasn’t led to war with Iran but it has opened up hostilities in the Democratic presidential race. Bernie Sanders wants to use the tension in the Middle East to tar Joe Biden for his 2002 vote authorizing war in Iraq, in contrast to Mr. Sanders’ opposition to the use of American military power. In Tuesday night’s debate, Mr. Biden will need better responses.

[CUT]

Mr. Biden can start with the truth, which is that in 2002 the intelligence was wrong that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. Even Mr. Sanders, in his 2002 House of Representatives speech opposing the war authorization, cited as one reason that an invasion would make Saddam more likely to deploy chemical or biological weapons. Mr. Biden can also say that in President Bush’s second term he was one of the only Democrats working with Republicans to wind down the conflict.

The larger issue is whether Democrats will abandon their foreign-policy internationalism, and here Mr. Biden can go on the offensive. What will Mr. Sanders do to restrain Tehran’s violent imperialism in the Mideast? Why hasn’t he commented on this weekend’s Taiwan election, when voters rebuked China’s efforts to co-opt the island and bring it under Beijing’s control?

Mr. Biden can point out it’s easy for Mr. Sanders to say he was right about Iraq since he has opposed nearly all U.S. interventions, going back to his support for Latin American Communists as mayor of Burlington, Vt. He can even tie Mr. Sanders’ comments on Fidel Castro and other strongmen to President Trump’s rhetorical coddling of Vladimir Putin.

Really? So the WMDs we found in Taji didn't exist? The 2004 Amman attacks were going to use naturally occurring chem weapons?

Lie long engough about anything and it becomes the truth.

I thought the WSJ supported the Iraq War when the post-war was occurring.

Im sure the palettes of American tax pater money they joyfully unloaded on the Iranians, some of which have found its way to their bank accounts. Foundations and money laundering foreign aid scam filtered through many countries where everyone gets a vig until it finally arrives in a politicians bank account
