My father, 94, is a WWII vet. One of those boys that lied about his age at 17 to get in. He has some amazing stories. He was a medic. He even helped rescue men from the USS Indianapolis.

I am so fortunate to still have both my parents, 94 and 91. Living in their own in their house doing incredible for their ages. Will celebrate their 72nd anniversary in May.

My mother also has many stories of the war effort and the sacrifices everyone was more than happy to do.

Yeah. Very different times. Completely different people.

My dad was a WW2 veteran as well. He graduated from high school early so he could go to Navy flight school. He flew several combat missions in the South Pacific. He lied about his age so he could serve, it caught up with him in 2004. I took him to renew his drivers license and his records didn’t match. The state of NY had his birth year as 1925, the VA had his birth year as 1922. Dad told the manager at the DMV that he lied about his age so he could serve in the military. The manager said “ thank you very much for your service “, shook his hand and renewed his drivers license.
