A hearing officer (Barbara Goodman) has recommended Cook County States Attorney Kim Foxx and Clerk of the Circuit Court hopeful Michael Cabonargi appear on the March primary ballot despite challenges to their nominating petitions.
Goodman also recommended Cabonargi appear on the March ballot. Cabonargi, who serves on the countys Board of Review, is running for clerk of the circuit court.
Foxx had 3,362 signatures more than the required minimum (7,279) to appear on the ballot after a petition challenge filed by former 2nd Ward Ald. Bob Fiorettis campaign.
Fiorettis team alleged Foxxs petition sheets showed a pattern of fraud.

It is another embarrassing reminder of how incompetent and inept Foxx is in terms of complying with legal specifications.

It is easy to collect bad signatures without sound procedures. I’m involved in a ballot initiative in my county. We are taking steps (such as looking up voters from the field using the online Board of Elections database) to ensure that we have good signatures. Even then, a few might be illegible or incomplete. We have planned for as much as 40 percent rejection to ensure we are left comfortably above the statutory minimum.
