Gov. Ron DeSantis is pushing for a $600 million plan to raise the starting pay for new teachers...
Nearly 1,000 teachers, who boarded 16 buses for a 10-hour bus ride to Tallahassee, had a sendoff that was also attended by Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and Rep. Donna Shalala.
Were fighting for better pay so we can make cost of living," said Mayade Ersoff, a teacher. Were fighting for no testing..."

South Florida media is hyping this like it is a giant push against evil Republicans.
What the hell is this supposed to mean ? Sure, get the kids used to no accountability at all....training for future in the democrat party. Maybe this should be carried into College too. No testing would make Med school interesting....
I am no longer an uneducated deplorable.
I am now an UNTESTED deplorable.
Only when school principals no longer get six figure salaries will I take these teacher strikes seriously. And only then will the teachers be fairly represented by the Union Thugocracy.
Tie the pay to making sure the students know how to read and write and real history.
Currently, what is the pay scale for Florida teachers?
Had to go outside this OP article because the author is lazy.
http://www.salary.com/research/salary/benchmark/public-school-teacher-salary/miami-fl
“The average Public School Teacher salary in Miami, FL is $56,099 as of December 26, 2019, but the range typically falls between $48,975 and $64,765.”
That starting salary is way more than what we live on. No sympathy. If they’re so stupid they can’t live off that, they certainly don’t need to be teaching students.
Thanks! To listen to some of their demonstrators one would think they were close to minimum wage. Actually they are in the range of middle management of a manufacturing plant.
Also, I hear that many teachers don’t really teach anymore. As all the students have laptops, they have internet programs for the students to turn on when they start class and the teacher only answers questions which arise. I also hear that many classes are taught out of a workbook. The teacher just hands them out and picks them up. After college, I taught in high school many years ago. It was very different in those years, including salary. We made a pittance of what they receive today.
Yes.
When I was in school, class size was 40. Those teachers are whining over a 25 student limit. The schools near us in TX have a 17 student limit and our taxes sure do show it.
I wouldn’t give them two red cents! I work in a community college library and see the “research papers” and essays these public school educated with high school diplomas students leave on tables, the printer or on the computers. Sadly, most cannot write a coherent sentence and from the instructors I hear that our remedial classes are always full and our gen-ed classes are falling off because of the utter crap the public schools are passing. I have to wonder what the hell the teachers are doing all day long because they are not teaching!
Here in Kentucky I watched our public school teachers make total asses out of themselves protesting former Gov. Bevin’s attempts to save their pension. Democrat Gov. Breshear essentially looted that fund for general funding expenses and Bevin was the bad guy. So the teachers started name calling and Bevin jumped into the mud with them rather stupidly and then the teachers started skipping their duties to go protest, calling in sick when obviously they were not sick but playing politics. Then they elect Breashear Jr. to “save them!”
My wife can barely contain herself when her “friends” who are public school teachers start up about how bad they have it in their jobs anymore and wants to tear them a new one. She watched me come in for three years worried about budget cuts to higher education to pay for these cry bags pensions and each week tell her about another co-worker who was let go. We lost a crap load of people who were just flat out fired and the teachers are still wailing and bitching about their pension and they want a $2000 bonus! I have no use for public school teachers anymore, they are not professional and are sure as hell are not doing their jobs.
