If I had the choice of hiring one who learned from an online course or a brick-and-mortar school, I choice the one from the physical school.
That is the reason anyone goes to any school, not just Harvard or Yale. Well, besides not want to have a pitiful online education.
I have a policy to reject online degrees for many reasons.
I'm whole heartedly with you on those reasons as well.

This is actually very important; and, should serve to neutralize people who worry about exposing students to the obvious crap at universities. Any student who succumbs to ideals that violate their faith might not have been parented well. My kids just fine in their heathen environments. Why, they even brought home terrific stories about their raging battles.
Indeed. One of the worst things is the lack of control over who actually takes the online tests.
My daughter is now a chemist (PhD). When she was an undergrad she took linear algebra on-line. Later when she discovered she really knew very little linear algebra when compared to other sub-disciplines of math. She had two friends who likewise did math online. They took two semesters of calculus, later when it came to taking their thermodynamic class they were lost.
You appear to be nothing more than an apologist for the current, failing, over-priced system.
The process of education is in need of a major overhaul and people like you keep protecting the status quo.
That’s because a) we have a horrible educational system that hurts the least bright the most, and b) the least bright are now being pushed through college with pretty much fake classes and degrees, because of the federal loan/grant bonanza incentivizing such.
I see you get your exercise by jumping to conclusions.
Maybe they are being pushed through that system by stupid parents rather than by federal loans. Maybe the universities make fake classes so that real ones can be occupied by higher achievers.
I know this is just anecdotal - I barely made it through 9th grade - but have been making between $160k - $220k each of the last 10+ years... College would have been a waste of time...
Sure, the parents are glad to hear that their kids are going to college—on someone else’s dime. And you still have the best affirmative-action students at the highest levels of higher ed, similarly getting pushed through.
Here’s a message from someone who broke through the trance:

I have found far too many people, mostly Indians, that plagiarize. They pay to get a paper written. Ask them about their paper and they have no idea what’s in it.
You undoubtedly made good with a sharp mind and an unstoppable attitude. Too bad you are the exception rather than the rule.
That is great! He is a self-made man with a flair for success. People can be quite potent if they have a can-do attitude and chase a dream that matches their talents.
Online classes are great for filling in missed opportunities and exploring possible interests. A PhD in chemistry is nothing to sneeze at.

As steel sharpens steel, so one man sharpens another
It depends.
Sometimes the online classes are great for brushing up or learning a new language or program.
I like the open courseware that MIT has because AI is fascinating to me, same thing with statistics and Game Theory. If I should have to interview ever again I need to keep my skills utterly current, but working full time and playing music in two bands professionally makes it very hard to go to classes.
I can so clearly remember what it was like as a young student to sit all night in a restaurant or pub and discuss math/physics/computer science with my peers. Computer architecture discussions were down right exciting. Online schooling can never serve up euphoria like that.
