Allies of President Trump are pursuing an effort to acquire right-leaning news channel One America News Network, according to people familiar with the matter, in a bid to shake up a conservative media market that has been dominated by Fox News. The investment firm Hicks Equity Partners is looking to acquire the channel and is pitching other wealthy GOP donors to arrange a bid of roughly $250 million for the channels parent company, the people said. The firm is owned by the family of Thomas Hicks Jr., co-chairman of the Republican National Committee and a close friend of Donald Trump Jr. The efforts come as Mr. Trump has periodically rebuked Fox News for being too criticaldespite its opinion-show hosts general support of his administrationand has praised One America News Network. The channels opinion programming is known among its cable-news peers for its praise of Donald Trump and its advocacy for conservative causes.

“Some of us have cut cable - OAN is available for $4.99/month via the Roku app”
We cut back quite a bit on our cable by lowering our package, and removing from a couple of rooms. We looked at finding the stuff we want by alternate means, e.g., Roku and similar, to find the shows that interest both of us. It didn’t work out. We do have Amazon Prime, not because of the TV, but for fast shipping. But I do enjoy watching old “Magnum”, “Cagney and Lacey”, “The Closer”, and some others on Prime.
BTW, last week I heard a story (on FBN, I think), that Verizon is supposed to be offering a TV service pretty much without bundles — more a la carte. Don’t know if that’ll happen or if they’re just kicking around the idea.
We have Amazon Prime, Sling, and Netflix (tapping off a friend’s service for now.
Sling has most of the channels we normally watch witha cable type package (TBS AMC Paramount SyFy BBC and a number of others - almost everything we generally use with cable - and we can record specific shows/series, etc.).
Biggest downside is while an antenna gives us the Network/locals, there’s no way to record a series we like and which comes on too late for our normal viewing. I might have to go back to a minimal package to keep the wife happy, but will still be saving about $80 a month compared to what we had.
What to you think you pay monthly for those services (if you included Netflix)?
$65 a month and $60 more for an unlimited internet plan - about $100 less than the package we’ve been on.
Gonna keep looking as things develop and more options become available and may end up with a minimal bundle package and reconfigure for most bang for the buck while getting what we want (if you talk to the wife, the “want” is really “need”)
Get an over the air Tivo and record away. The Tivo offers Apps as well like a Roku and I think they are getting ready to offer streaming package too. I have three of them easy enough to get one cheap from eBay or get a new one in several places you won't be sorry you did.
Thanks - I’ll look them up.
