According to a 2011 court opinion, Magnan held parties at his off-base residence and provided alcohol to underage individuals. During a military court trial, three lance corporals testified that after falling asleep at Magnan’s house or at a hotel room after the Marine Corps Ball, they woke up to either find their pants had been removed or Magnan was sexually assaulting them, according to the opinion. Among his convictions were one count of abusive sexual conduct, one count of wrongful sexual contact, one count of forcible sodomy and three counts of assault.
As a result of these offenses, Magnan has also been a registered sex offender since 2010.

Later that day, members of the BC Band group were afforded an opportunity of unparalleled awe: an exclusive private tour of the Marine One helicopter fleet (The President’s fleet) at Quantico, Va. Marine Base, which carries the President and the Presidential staff to most venues around the world (On the day of our tour, three fleet helicopters arrived back at Base from the G20 summit.) Band members and chaperones were able to go inside the helicopters and inspect and sit in the cockpit of more than five of the aircraft. Brandon Magnan, a 2001 BCHS band graduate is a staffer for the Marine One Presidential Guard and arranged and led the tour at the request of Band Director Kelly Parker.

Collier County has lost a loyal, trustworthy and respected mentor and band director.
Mark Branson made the Barron Collier High School band what it is. He gave the community laughter and excitement at the Friday night football games with the halftime shows that he would handwrite weekly.
Mark was an excellent teacher who provided the students not only with the opportunity to go overseas on exciting trips, but would also give us motivating speeches of the historical sites and museums that we visited on those trips. The trips are not just for the performances, but for enhancing our education too.
It is an absolute shame he has resigned. By this unfortunate outcome, the entire community definitely will be hurt, as well as the future of the BCHS band and everyone else who knows him.
We will still be there for you and thank you for all you have done for the hundreds of students you have positively mentored, and have led to success with your teachings!

The former Barron Collier High School band director charged with having sex repeatedly with a 12-year-old boy pleaded guilty Tuesday and, in a deal with state prosecutors, agreed to serve 12 years in state prison.
Jeffry Mark Branson, 36, formally was convicted by Collier County Circuit Judge Fred Hardt of three counts of lewd battery. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison, with 33 of those to be suspended if Branson turns himself in to the court Jan. 2. From there he would be taken to the jail, where he’d await transfer to prison.
