AK-47s are not semi-automatic. They are full automatic. Were they referring to an SKS, the semi-automatic pre-cursor?
AK-47 and 99% of SKS’s are completely different guns with “The 7.62X39 Bullet” being the only real interchangeable part.
An SKS-M/D (maybe 1% of SKS’s built) can use AK-47 magazines (but again, no other parts interchange).
Semi-Automatic versions of the AK-47 are called “AK-47’s” by pretty much everyone who owns/sells them. Mine was sold as an AKS-47 when purchased in 1992.
